I've been experimenting with allowing players to customise dropped item pile icons. I've allowed any suitable textures to be selected, not just the normal randomly assigned ones. Here's a flavour of what dropped piles of items can now look like:
Anyone else think this will be a cool QoL feature for organising stuff in our houses and ships?
(NOTE: the permissable icon lists may change once Interkarma sees it)

Yes. I had imagined being able to make each dropped item represent in the world, rather than use generic loot piles, so you could decorate your house with books, weapons (Daedric artifacts, etc), flowers, and other knick knacks. If this isn't the same thing, then it sounds like a step towards it.

Re: Customising dropped item icons
Thanks guys, glad you like it.
@Jay_H: I've only included icons that are containers, piles of stuff or representative of a type of item. So no flower pots, sorry. It might be possible to have a special type of loot container that only works in player house that allows decorating. I think that will be quite a way down the todo list. Lets see if there's much clamour for such a thing once houses are in.

This looks cool! Happy you ran with this. It's already more customisation than classic had, and the way you implemented is nice and fits right in. Good work.

Re: Customising dropped item icons
Its deffo nice, I like the idea! Great step forward. I also think the ship interiors would really appreciate some love in a sense of furniture. Some shelves, beds, paintings... you know. Now its really empty. I also found free ship and cargo models in unity store. But Im too lame to be able to import them on my own unfortunately.

https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3 ... ips-104215
these free wagons look great as well!
https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3 ... gons-33411
and this shader might be interresting but Im not sure
https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/v ... rs-v2-2680
also to make it even more OT... there are some payed weather assets
https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/t ... ture-30796
"Force Of Nature is a weather, nature, rain, snow, lightning and lighting system extremely customizable to render realistic and dynamic shader based clouds, sun, moon, sky and twinkling stars, with custom shader fog, height fog, and amazing natural landscapes in a day and night cycle."
Yup it costs 90,- bucks. And that would be open to discussion... I have no idea if someone here is able to create such a thing on his own, and if the required time invested would be realistic. So we can MAYBE discuss the possibility of including selected payed assets we agree on and we know can be implemented and make game better? I can imagine sending some bucks to the pool... for the case. But Im not sure this is the way etc. Sorry for OT.

Re: Customising dropped item icons
Swapping the classic ship models for something like you suggested would make a cool mod for someone to do. Would need to do interior and exterior models. Although interior furniture would not be interactive - only model replacements for the 2 boxes in the small ship interior would interact.
