After several test iterations, Daggerfall Unity is feeling reasonably solid across the two main platforms Windows and Linux. A huge thanks to all testers who helped discover early bugs and quirks. There’s obviously still more to fix, and a lot of game features to implement, but we have a pretty good starting point with this build. At some point, I need to push a stick into the ground and say “it starts here.”

It Starts Here

Daggerfall Unity 0.1 is now available for general download. Key features of this build are:
  • Create a new character or load an existing character from a classic Daggerfall save.
    The entire world of the Illiac Bay is ready to explore at 1:1 scale to Daggerfall itself. Go anywhere, enter any dungeon, and explore any town.
  • Quick-save and quick-load your progress.
  • Dungeons are populated with fixed and random enemies just like in Daggerfall.
  • Basic combat mechanics with the ebony dagger.
  • Game console for enabling god mode, setting run speed, teleporting around world, etc.
  • Lypyl’s enhanced sky mod with dynamic skybox, procedural clouds, and even phases of the moon!
  • Nystul’s beautiful far terrain mod and improved terrain generation.

Known Issues In This Build
  • If at least one classic save is not available the Load Game screen becomes inactive. Fixed in 0.1.1.
  • Quick load fails in large dungeons that extend beyond map cell area. Fixed in 0.1.1.

A non-Test build already? With the terrain and sky mods in? This is great, and it's only the beginning.

Or maybe I fell asleep in front of the PC and I'm dreaming...

Cancel button in load screen where there are no saves still does not work :(

EDIT:
When Quick save exists load also does not work.

Sorry mate, I forgot to look at this one. I'll fix in the next 24-48 and upload a patched version. :)

Almost everything works for me so far:
1) ground textures and proper lighting now both work for Windows XP and my old DirectX - i'm again very grateful for this fast fix, Interkarma;
2) enhanced sky mod, console, teleportation work just fine;
3) my old saves seem to load ok.

A weird issue exists in Direnni Tower (i'll be more specific in the next post).

Some night views with moons, a ship, and a day view with an enhanced sky and flaring sun.

Now back to the issues.
My character is inside the Direnni Tower (location 9 from the console), not far from the exit, on the stairs.
Here is the quick save file for this.
QuickSave - in front of the trap.zip

If i step any further, a stone panel suddenly appears from the wall and pushes me off the stairs to my untimely demise down below.
If you are careful, it's possible to dodge.
Save 2 - after some smart moves you can see the treacherous panel.
