This is a very fringe problem, and it may just be Unity architecture instead of anything you can do. The steps to reproduce are:

1. Die by any means. This was reproduced after falling damage and the Suicide command.
2. While falling to the ground, open the console. Close it at any time.
3. Reload the save game.

When the interface reaches full brightness, the screen blacks out entirely. All auxiliary views (F5, F6, Escape key, Console) allow a normal dimmed view. The Rest button produces its regular parchment message, but does not offer a normal dimmed view.

I didn't have to follow those steps to reproduce this bug. I simply went into the dungeon without tgm at level 1 and got whacked by a barbarian. The reload screen came up and I reloaded the same game; got black screen. Then I hit esc, the reload screen came back up, I reloaded the same game, and the game loaded normally.

So you can wipe the black screen effect by loading the game twice. At least here you can.

Not so fringe then I haven't reproduced it in that manner (to my recollection), but that's certainly helpful.
