QOL suggestion: Vampire Loiter

Being unable to Loiter when not having fed is a real annoyance.

The design reason is so you can't heal up without having fed first. However, loitering is just skipping time. Which is essential for vampire play because you can only travel at night. So what happens? You enter a town during the day to shop etc. Then you can't leave until nightfall unless you kill a commoner. And then you have to run from the guards etc.

It would be a completely naturally feeling thing to have to find some open building, like a tavern and loiter inside until nightfall, THEN leave and initiate travel.

Having to feed to loiter feels like a bit of lazy programming that only annoys the player needlessly.

This could of course be handled by a mod, but it seems like a case of design intention not matching coding so I figured I'd throw it out there as a suggestion before I start thinking about a mod for it :D

I haven’t had any of my characters turn Vampire yet, so I can’t speak from experience here. However, it seems to me like Vampires should not be able to REST, but should be able to loiter. As Ralzar says loitering just skips time. It’s a player convenience for shops, banks, guild opening times etc., and of course for passing day into night.

I agree this should be looked into, checked for possible exploit etc, and then perhaps changed. Kind of like how the minimum loiter time was changed, and instant repair times and so on. If it’s determined not to affect the gameplay too much perhaps a checkbox option could be added, or the Vampire’s loitering ability just changed across the board.

Having to just let the time tick away while waiting would be pretty boring gameplay, and doesn’t seem to add much to the player experience in my opinion.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about the opening times. That's perhaps the worst part. If you show up an hour before a shop opens, you have to either just stand there in real time for an hour or kill someone, dodge the guard, possibly leave town and rest in the wilderness for an hour and then return...

It's just silly.

I freaking despise not being able to loiter as starved vampire. I understand that i cannot rest, but loiter? It does not even make sense. I can loiter manually by doing nothing so i should be able to do that with the loiter mechanic.

This has always bothered me personally as well, but I implemented like classic despite my preference being otherwise.

I don't think there's any issue in allowing vampires to loiter regardless of satiation. If everyone else agrees, I'm happy to make this change.

Oh yes please! That is literally the only thing that kept me from actually playing Vampire. I tried it, but without being able to loiter... ugh! especially the banks have the bad habit to only open during daylight hours...

Count my vote towards allowing Vampires to loiter.

Meanwhile, I use the mod Vampiric Options by lonegamedev hosted on NexusMods at:
https://www.nexusmods.com/daggerfallunity/mods/67

This allows the aforementioned loiter and other fun things like new bloodlust face art, options to revert to normal faces, or only display the bloodlust face when underfed.

Was not aware that he actually added the loiter mechanic to the mod. I was the one who suggested it. Good thing that we at least have a mod for it now...until *cough* Interkarma *Cough* makes the change. :D
