Daggerfall Demo

Got my hands of some not so well known Daggerfall Demo. Which was distributed before the game was done/released.
It's pretty nice, you can try out the spell and item maker. Visualize the bestiary in 3D.
You can also explore a dungeon.

The interface is a bit different at some places, you can see dropped features, such as the creature/guards on horse which made it on cd as a model but was never implemented into the game.

The demo was also done before the mouse look control scheme was implemented, so you can explore dungeon but only with the original control scheme. They implemented it as a very late feature following feedbacks from beta tests.

Also the font was a bit different, far less pixelized, and I like it much more! Wish I could drop it into the final game. Might be possible, will try.

Also they had some awesome feature built for testing, such as clothes being useful for climate protection and also affecting your personality when speaking to NPC.

The game was still using a xp model for levelling + natural skills progression as it is today.

Wow!

Never Heard about that demo.
The clothing climate protection and affecting personality and npc conversations are very modern implementations shown in later Elder scrolls even in mods. There are even switchable options.

The mounted guards and the encyclopaedia ingame are great aswell. Could it be considered "semiofficial vanilla"?

And survival mechanism are still not a part of the vanilla main game. Daggerfall was really the pillar of the series where they tried to do everything.

Maybe we'll be able to implement those uncompleted features them as a mod in DF Unity :)

So was the feature were clothes had climate protection actually in this demo! I didn't know that stuff went past the drawing board!

Also have you checked out the Betony Demo? I'm assuming it was released around the actual (due to it looking and playing just like it) release of the game but it's still interesting.

Yeah, but nothing interesting in the Betony demo, it's pretty much the final game with only one island and some city/dungeon which are not in the final game. But they're not that interesting and still procedurally generated.

I remember people discussion these demo release files a while back because of the monster models, and attempting to export them out and use them in game (since they have more frames than in released vanilla). Don't know whatever became of that.

I could be wrong, but does the Betony Demo have a few extra block not in the final game?
