Best Unity version for modding?

Post by FiftyTifty »

Found out about Daggerfall Unity a wee while back, and now learned how accessible the modding system is. Followed the guide to prepping Unity for it, but I've hit a snag. The latest version, 2019.4.11f1, doesn't work with the latest Daggerfall Tools asset package.

Which version of Unity is best for modding this game?

Daggerfall Unity now (starting with 0.10.26) uses Unity 2019.4.10f1

You need to clone or download Daggerfall Unity repository, which contains everything needed.

The tools package found on the website is a group of utilities to extract data from classic game files and doesn't include any modding tool.

I was going by this guide: https://www.dfworkshop.net/static_files ... tarted.pdf

Which is the wrong one. Gotcha. Are there any relevant tutorials for starting from zero? I've plenty of experience modding the newer Elder Scrolls and Fallout games, but not Unity.

You can start with reading the documentation at

Aye I followed that, but the beginner tutorial, right off the bat, mentions stuff that requires prior setup as well as DF Tools: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=277

What's the initial setup required to get to the starting point?

All the required tools are part of daggerfall-unity repository. You can fork and clone it (or simply download source code as an archive and extract it). Then you can open it with Unity 2019.4.10f1 and wait for first import and compilation. :)
