[MOD] Vanilla Enhanced

Post by carademono »

Vanilla Enhanced
https://www.nexusmods.com/daggerfallunity/mods/273

This mod completely overhauls Daggerfall's visuals while maintaining its original pixel art charm. It also adds remastered vanilla skies and a huge variety of villagers and enemies.

Main Features:
  • All textures in the game have been remastered in 32-bit color.
  • It includes retouched versions of carademono's variety mods. There are around 1,000 villager varieties (instead of vanilla's 24), 720 human enemy varieties (instead of 15), and 10-15 varieties of orcs, centaurs, and vampires. Redguard enemies now appear in Hammerfell.
NPC flats have been remastered based on the best available vanilla source -- and all are now animated.
Important note: This mod includes and upgrades Animated People, Villager Variety, and Villain & Monster Variety. If you have those mods installed, you need to remove them for this mod to work correctly.

Vanilla Enhanced Contributors
carademono (sprites, textures, and daytime skies)
Hazelnut (villager variety coding)
Kab the Bird Ranger (animated NPCs and enemy variety coding)
Ninelan (nighttime skies)

All textures used in this mod are available in carademono's GitHub repositories. They may be freely used in other mods as long as Vanilla Enhanced is credited. New contributions and pull requests to Vanilla Enhanced welcome!

That looks amazing!

Just one question: are there existing mods that for sure are NOT compatible with this one? Maybe DREAM or Handpainted Models?

Thanks a lot!

Good question! You're correct, you probably wouldn't want to use this mod with DREAM or Handpainted Models because the pixel art aesthetic would clash with the HD aesthetic. Vanilla Enhanced is also a total texture replacement, just like DREAM is -- they do the same thing, but differently.

That said, I've provided the high-res vanilla skies in separate dfmods, so you can play with DREAM using the VE skies if you'd like.

For some reason I can't load a save after istalling this mod. I just press LOAD button and nothing happens. Also a lot of text seems to be messed up(color bleeding), as well as map on the new game screen.(Just downloaded a nexus version)

That's odd, what version of DFU are you using? Are there any potentially conflicting mods?

Edit: Better yet, could you please post your logs?

Could you please send me screenshots of the color bleeding text and map issue?

These are only few examples of color bleed. Almost all of character creation screens exhibit these color bleedings in some capacity.

Ah ok, that's a result of the de-dithering model I used on the UI. I'm planning on retouching it further to reduce the color bleeding but that will be a v1.2 fix.

Looking through Daggefall Imaging2, it seems the raw texture for map uses wrong color palette.
