I've been holding off on replying here, but thought I'd mention that I had seen the same issue with the bow not producing blood strikes. I believe it was with 0.8.2 as well. If classic behaviour is the preference, set "IllegalRestWarning=False" and behaviour will match classic exactly.
It is great that you included the option in Settings. That does seem to allow the best of both worlds. Thanks much for that.

For me, the pop-up serves the same function, and we get pop-ups for a lot of things. I do agree with Jayhova, that tinting the various buttons was a more elegant solution, reminding me of Morrowind for some reason, and later Elder Scrolls. But you can't easily miss a pop-up in the traditional brown ...
