Re: Character will not swing weapon

If it was brilliant, it would've been copied more. You could say that about Daggerfall in general. Features like the huge procedurally generated world, the huge dungeons, etc. haven't been copied much, but most people here seem to like some or all of them. Otherwise we would just be happy playing S...

Re: Character will not swing weapon

The original mouse mechanics of Daggerfall are so bizarre, I'd be pretty concerned about leaving them default for final release. As evidenced by this post, not even being able to swing your weapon reliably isn't a very good first impression. And once you do mess with the slider and get it working, ...

Re: How would you implement an auto-walk function?

Actually I would like to see the intended notebook implemented at some point in the future (even if it's not core but mod, as it never made it to classic), so I vote for turning "Joystick" into "More", which also looks more flexible for future bindings (and mod bindings?) Also, the buttons (joystick...

Re: Gold and encumbrance

As another veteran RPG player, I agree this kind of features shouldn't be abused in game design as they often do more harm than good, but there are some games that do hunger and identify right. For example, I recommend ADOM for both features. Hunger management is very fun in the early game, especial...

Re: Determinism

I'm sure they're other interesting uses I didn't think of... Another example where they're interesting: the roguelike Brogue, as roguelikes tend to do, generates a different dungeon and different challenges for you in each new game. But it provides you with the seed it has used, and you can manuall...

Re: Any way to change the font?

It does look amazing! It would also be interesting to try a font color different from yellow. One got used to it from playing classic (in fact, I don't think I even gave this a thought when I played classic, I was too busy having my mind blown by the game, I guess) but actually using yellow as the p...

Re: Loot tables and resting interrupt chance

When I played classic like 20 years ago, I always thought that the dungeon had "safe" areas where it was possible to rest with very low chance of encounters, and more dangerous areas. And of course I actively tried to find the safe areas and rest in them. Now I learn for the first time that apparent...

Re: Roads of Daggerfall

Also, roads should probably built taking other roads into account. The triangulation results in more roads than would be natural. What I mean is, if you already have a road from city A to B and there is a third city C quite close to that road, you wouldn't build roads A-C and B-C. Instead, either yo...

I'm guessing the older CPUs represent the intended behaviour, but not completely sure.
Probably... the Pentium II was released in 1997, one year after Daggerfall, and it was a quite radical improvement. Probably they didn't foresee the consequences...
