Re: AI Upscaled Textures

I believe that we should be striving to restore the graphics to the quality of the original source artwork that Bethesda used to create the assets - before downscaling the resolution and reducing the color depth to save memory. The obvious problem here is that we have very little to go by. I mean, ...

Re: Verbose Combat

Perhaps this could be expanded to verbose actions where when your luck comes into play you get a message e.g. " Miraculously the lock before you opens even though you were clueless as to how " Or perhaps you roll well on a skill roll " A sudden insight allows you to accomplish this task " I like th...

Re: AI Upscaled Textures

Speaking in platitudes here, but I believe everyone would be on board with the goal of trying to keep the upscaled graphic as close to parity with the original that it's replacing as possible. That isn't a very helpful statement since "as close to as possible" isn't quantifiable. Also lacking is th...

Re: HD Pre-rendered Daggerfall Sprites

I remember reading at Mark Jones' website that he made some of the Battlespire enemies based on the existing Daggerfall models so I thought that since you're trying to recreate DF models some of the Battlespire stuff could be also used as a reference.

Re: AI Upscaled Textures

I think we're again facing the problem of big features vs. small details here. The hand-drawn low-res sprites have a lot of very small features, and both ESRGAN and your scripts tend to distort them. It's probably something that cannot be alleviated altogether without hand-editing the sprites. What'...

Re: HD Pre-rendered Daggerfall Sprites

Kamer , awesome job you're doing here! One question though: do you think you'd be able to imitate Mark Jones' style that he used for Battlespire high-res sprites? Something like this: http://www.kultcds.com/Upload/Battlespire/SS49/sserv_050.png I suppose that if Bethesda wanted to make a high-res u...

Re: AI Upscaled Textures

I just did a very small comparison of Phredreeke 's scaling method and what I came up with. I took the priest sprite similar to the one on the preview image I ran tests with (second from the right, top row) and scaled it up: left : the antialiased version from Phredreeke 's pack with ESRGAN/Manga in...

Re: AI Upscaled Textures

Am I to understand that you used the same xBR + Gaussian Blur method as in the first post and only changed the alpha value for the ESRGAN interpolation? Yes, I used the Gaussian blur at 2 pixel radius for everything in the previous posts, but more on this below. Also, what is the purpose of droppin...

Re: AI Upscaled Textures

Here's another attempt, this time I used xBR so scale up the image and an interpolated ESRGAN/Manga109 model at alpha = 0.2:

No blending, sharpening or other post-processing here. I think it's overall better than the results above.

Re: AI Upscaled Textures

Here's the result of blending three layers: the first two shown above (ESRGAN/Manga109 and pure Manga109) and the same image simply scaled up with xBRZ: https://i.imgur.com/EPj0UJi.png It's a bit smoother than the two-layer blend. For comparison here's only the xBRZ scaled image: https://i.imgur.com...
