Re: Distortion Issues After Saving Specific PCX Files

I've never had any problems editing PCX files because I converted the images to PNG for editing, then back to PCX for Andypic to process. You might want to use GrafX2 for that black-transparent colour to work properly, this editor works very well with PCX too. I usually convert PCX to PNG using XCC ...

Re: Did Daggerfall go overboard?

I suppose that the devs indeed went overboard with the size of the game. Evidently they wanted to make it bigger than Arena , and random content generation allowed them to streamline a large world, at the expense of it being repetitive and devoid of individuality. I'd love it if the game world were ...

Re: AI Upscaled Textures

because to get those images ingame in a way they dont destroy everyones PCs RAM/VRAM, we need to compress them, and that will remove a bit of that sharpness indeed Actually I believe that the best way to process the sprites is to convert them back to the original palette, which will also reduce the...

Re: AI Upscaled Textures

Also, I certainly don't want to discourage you from trying to train new models. Training models is beyond my capabilities ATM, 'cause I'm stuck with CPU mode even though I have an NVIDIA card but my current distro is officially unsupported by CUDA. I have asked at the distro dev forums, maybe they ...

Re: AI Upscaled Textures

In the meantime, I came up with what seems like a good idea for high quality data to train a model for sprite scaling. First off, I think that it would be reasonable to discern hand-drawn and pre-rendered sprites. For the latter, you can use authentic (relatively) high-resolution renders that have b...

Re: AI Upscaled Textures

Here's an "SVGA" mock-up of the character stats screen (from official Bethesda screenshot ): https://i.imgur.com/zZxXdBo.png I used the Manga model and applied Gaussian blur at 1 pixel radius before scaling down to 640x480 with Sinc3 in GIMP, then converted to the original palette with mtPaint. Here...

Re: AI Upscaled Textures

So I tried the Manga model myself. Here's a comparison of the same image run through waifu2x (Y-channel scaling) and Manga (ESRGAN): https://i.imgur.com/ro73Cgr.png https://i.imgur.com/1AF075K.png The pre-rendered models look really good with the Manga model. (But I think that it might have been tra...

Re: High resolution paperdoll

That's kinda neat! Please don't forget about the correct aspect ratio issue , the characters would look leaner and taller on the original 4:3 display: https://image.dosgamesarchive.com/screenshots/daggerfall_character.png https://image.dosgamesarchive.com/screenshots/dag03.png The face isn't quite t...

Re: AI Upscaled Textures

@MrFlibble So when you "soften" the image using xBR, are you using xBRZ Scaler Testing Tool with the Scaler = "3" (xBR) , and Scaling Factor = 1 ? Here's how I do it: load image in xBRZ Scaler Testing Tool, scale to 4x the original size (Scaling Factor = 4), with either xBR or xBRZ save the new lar...

Re: AI Upscaled Textures

I ran that xBR softened image through the ESRGAN using the Manga109 model and I think it made a noticeable improvement. I interpolated between the ESRGAN/PSNR/Manga109 and it looked like the sweet spot was 60% Manga109 and 40% ESRGAN. Cool, thanks for the test! I'm glad that the softening logic wor...
