Yeah that'd be one way to get rid of the noise. I might do that when I move to DFUnity.

Really though, a bad format is no excuse for shitty mixing.

Technically these adjusted sounds are not compressed. The format is still PCM at the same specification. There was no transcoding done. Unfortunately the fuzziness/static is due to the heavy-handed audio compression the game uses. I have a feeling whoever did the SFX for this game made everything so loud to cover it up. It's odd that you can repeatedly ask someone the same question and get the same answer in different ways. Pretty immersion breaking.
