House and Estate

Post by Zomgmeister »

Frankly, I never found any use for a house in Daggerfall. A place to storage items? Yeah, got a ship to do this.

Here's what I thought.

House Expanded
A house, being very costly thing, should have a purpose. So, here are some features that could be implemented in the game to make houses worth their gold.

House Recall Spell
Spell effect similar to Recall, with Anchor set inside a house at all time. If several houses are owned, caster should be able to select the one he wants to teleport to.
This feature alone makes it worthy to have houses in Daggerfall, Wayrest and Sentinel at least.

Furniture and Storage
I vividly remember that Julian Jensen said that he wanted to do this, but had no time to.
A houseowner should be able to buy and set up various sorts of furniture. Perhaps merchants in General Stores could have "Furniture" dialogue option with catalogue of random items, or some crafting system may be implemented, that's not really important.
So, when you obtain a table or a storage chest, there should be a way to set them down in your house, pretty simple.

Wallpapers
Basically a houseowner should be able to change textures of room walls, floor et cetera. If someone wants to live in a dungeon, using hanging bodies or caged skeletons as decor, who are we to judge them?

NPCs
Probably as a perk of an advanced guild rank, a houseowner should be able to "invite" various service NPCs into their houses. Such as Daedra Summoner, Spell Maker and Repair guy. And probably some vendors to sell crap to. These NPC should go for a lump sum instead of more logical monthly salary, because that way it is less annoying.

Estate
What if, when a player is in good standing with a king of a province, he is eligible to buy an Estate in addition to houses in cities?

An Estate is, at first, just a house somewhere in the wilderness. You can fast travel there and use a House Recall Spell to get there.

But it should be possible to expand your Estate, adding buildings such as shops, guild houses and temples. Ways to do it should include high faction status and some special quests. And a lot of gold.

An advanced Estate should basically be a nice little town, with a castle as your home and all the services you want to have in.

Nice ideas! :) Especially the House expanded one, I also think that player houses in classic Daggerfall are a good idea really not well explored.

Adding to ommamar's idea:

Maybe if you are like a lord and have a estate, you can hire your own personal daedra summoner, blacksmith, or potion maker. You could go to an npc (like a hired servant that came with the estate), and from there get a store where you could hire help.

You could use the pilfer mode on an npc in the mages guild (or other guild) and it will ask you "Do you want to kidnap this npc?" If you do, the npc will be placed in your residence, but like with being a vampire, people will come hunt you down. If they spawn when you are at your estate, you will get a pop-up saying "Your prisoners have been freed, and now they come for vengence!"

(Also, maybe have an npc at the thives guild be able to blackmail the guilds and pay you for the npcs.)

This is sounding like GTA: Tamriel

Like Ommamar's, an idea I had awhile ago was to hire useful NPCs and be able to place them within your ship (or now house). You'd be able to take a blacksmith, a potionmaker, a trainer, an enchanted item merchant, or any other person and rent them to your place for a monthly fee. This would provide incentive to keep earning money and give something useful at home. You'd have to have ordinary access to them beforehand, so you couldn't hire the Mages Guild item enchanter until you reached the necessary rank for it.

You can be roleplay as Jagar Tharn, kidnap the king, and offer all his guards in the palace a new job.
