Here's the upscaled version without the frame interpolation if you'd rather start from there:

It's probably better to do the frame interpolation very last (if at all). Also, this last time I used ffmpeg's frame interpolation instead of butterflow and while I think it looked better in some places, it definitely messes up pretty bad in others.
I don't know about others, but I love the big exposure boost version.
I second that, but maybe toned down just slightly.

EDIT: Here's an upscaled version of the death cut scene if anyone wants to do anything with it:

The term denoise is a bit misleading. One primary way to achieve the smoother, more natural look is to add dither which adds a small amount of noise to the picture. This takes two colors that are close to each other but are visually distinguishable and moves them closer to one another by moving some pixel values up or down a bit. This has the effect of blurring boundary lines. This greatly reduces compression artifacts like blob and banding.

Is this work being continued anywhere? It all looks great so far, I hope it's still being worked on :)

At the very least, I can finish upscaling all the videos and absorb it into the Pure Vanilla Extract mod.

My personal PC hard drive crashed last night, so it will be a little while before I can get to it. Luckily it was just the disk with my OS and a few games on it, so it's not a huge loss.

Hi Rhymer, are you still around?
Id like to ask, if I can add your two videos to the DREAM Mod please? viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1168&p=14152#p14152

Two years later, somebody else attempting to AI-upscale the intro video...
The guy's doing a lot of AI upscales on his YouTube channel, but I must say, I don't find the result as convincing.
The community upscale was really a collaborative labor of love.
