Replace Crickets with Ambient Owl Sounds

Replaces the annoying ambient cricket sound with an atmospheric owl hooting sound that has a much longer and less noticeable loop.

Original Owl Sound Effect both to credit the original person who captured the sound and to provide a chance to listen before downloading.

Download from Dropbox.

Installation:
Unpack from the .rar file and place in your DaggerfallUnity_Data folder, replacing the file if asked.

Uninstall:
Go into DaggerfallUnity_Data/StreamingAssets/Sound/ and delete AmbientCrickets.wav

Nice idea. But it sounds like the owl is 1 meter away from you, because it has no depth.
Ive added some reverb/echo and now it sounds how I imagine it might sound in the open areas. Its more atmospheric IMHO

My only concern is, how it will fit the game lets say in the desert...

Excellent suggestion. Mind if I put that version on Dropbox and update the download link?

Also, I agree, but crickets are also inappropriate in snowy climates, so it's a little give and take either way lol.

Sure, if u also think its better with the echo than by all means, its yours :)

Ive tryed it now, surprisingly, I think its too loud, eventho the file appeared relatively quiet. Id reduce the volume, maybe even to 50%, or 66%. Will need some testing. Also, its still felt the howls are too close to each other. Maybe adding more silence between them would benefit the feeling.

Anyway, as Ive said, nice idea.

Alright. I got the sound working well enough where the owls are almost as active as the vanilla crickets, but nowhere near as earsplitting or repetetive. I would like to request that it be moved to the mods section if it is satisfactory.

Yea, nice progression, left/right separation, some echo and not so loud.
Much better.

Would it be possible to create a mod that changes the background sounds based on the time of year and location?

Right now it requires to create a new AmbientSoundPresets, modify the WeatherManager to recognize those presets conditions, and modify the list of sounds associated with the preset in AmbientSoundPlayer:
https://github.com/Interkarma/daggerfal ... r-crickets

I'm not sure how to transform that into a mod though... For one I don't know how to compile a module, much less how to create a new one from scratch, but also is it okay to extend enumerations, like AmbientSoundPresets or SoundClips? I don't know...

That would be really cool. I'll wait until I better understand the way the seasons and locations are registered in-game first, but I would love to make more variation in the ambient sounds.

Even though crickets make no sense in winter, insects are omnipresent and it makes sense that the sound would exist wherever you are (except in the middle of the ocean of something).

Owls are rare creatures in comparison. Having an owl sound follow you around would be quite odd. A wolf sound every 30 minutes in the wilderness would make sense. An owl sound coming from 1 out of 100 trees would make sense.
