To keep things simple, the PC could lose max health/endurance for a period of time, maybe a day or two, as an incumbent effect. [Edit: Maybe a chance of contracting a disease e.g. Witch's Pox, Caliron's Curse]

If a dead humanoid body is available nearby, a zombie can be raised. A destroyed undead creature could be raised as a skeleton. Raising a skeleton would have a lower cost.

Regarding the original 'divine aid' idea, I wonder if having a high status with a divine faction might enable the PC to create alliances with creatures they have pacified with language skills. For instance, having a high standing with Julianos might give you a chance to ally a mage that you have pacified, high standing with Dibella might allow alliance with Nymphs, etc. This would be a type of a non-magical 'summoning'.
awesome ideas
Perhaps a lore inspired reason could be given as to why certain monsters adhere to certain gods.

When you enter a dark place, you can call upon the gods of old to clear your path of enemies lol.
If there are a lot of mummies, a successful prayer could ally all mummies in the dungeon or area. for instance.

a less successful prayer just gives you a light or something, a punishment could be more aggressive enemies for a failed prayer.

Wow, so many mods really flesh out the pacifist character to something viable with different playstyles. You could choose no death or bloodshed, or require it.

Maybe a new faction will form. Or at least this opens the dark brotherhood up to 'make it look like an accident' quests.
