Nice results esp on the face! Id like to know how you achieve it. If you can share some detail, it would be appretiated. Go on pls :) have fun!

Woof. I was worried that might be the case. I went in thinking he was a nord or something and then afterward, when looking at the two sprites, I thought he might be a Redguard. Thanks for the portrait view, that helps alot. I don't want the differences to be too jarring.

Re-edited for racial clarity:

If there are any portraits for these, can someone point me to them? Again, I want to be as accurate as possible, thanks.

I usually grab a stock actor portrait like this one:
https://pixabay.com/en/human-man-face-v ... t-3248733/

And place it on a layer above the sprite, set it to overlay or soft light, I then play with the opacity until I get something I feel fits. From there I move the features around, by stretching, pushing, cutting and moving, etc. until they match the sprites general locations. from there I meld using either the patch tool or draw the general color of the face into the "open" areas and push back and forth until it looks nice.

I then open a new layer and paint dark shadows in areas where I want them and set that layer to overlay and play with the opacity until I feel the shadows aren't garish and in your face.

I use the same method for applying textures, including clothing and hair. :D

I did this same method when I re-edited the man above. Using his nose, eyes and mouth from the portrait, cutting and pasting and then adjusting until I felt it worked.

I'd also like to point out that the official portrait is somewhat off-putting as the eyes are a bit too wide apart and slightly wall eyed. lol I understand that his face is supposed to be wide, but this is entering Sloth from Goonies territory. As such I tried to represent what I believed they were going for in the remade sprite. The eyes are set wide but not crazily so, and I adjusted the pupils to be pointing the same direction.

I mean, alternatively, I may be incorrect and the man may have some troll blood somewhere way back in his lineage. :P

Looks good but his neck is a bit tree trunk like now.

Ah, that's because I used the neck from the portrait and stretched to match (which doesn't match the proportions of the sprite, btw) lol It doesn't have near enough detail to match the rest of the sprite.

I've adjusted the shoulders and the neck to be more realistic. This should be a bit more palatable.
Let me know if it still feels off...

Awesome! I'll find those two ladies' portraits as soon as I can. As for eyes, don't worry about it, it seems to be one of the artists' thing (or they couldn't draw African people well). For instance, this woman: https://imgur.com/a/EqmD5

*Slow clap*
Little advice as ive spend a lot of time on NPCs as well. Dont try to get every character to 100% results on a 1st try... just haul thru. When bunch of em is done, make a 2nd pass. In that2ndpass you will have better skills etc. My opinion. Thanks for your devotion. Great results!

As it turns out, NPC portraits and sprites are reused a lot, in different combination (big surprise, yeah). I've posted a portrait of Kynaran missionary for the reference, but check out these goons.

LOLOLOL Well, there goes trying to get their sprites as close to their portraits as possible, unless we can make new sprites for them and then recode them to utilize said sprites. Woof. Not even the officials cared to do it, though it's possible it was due to constraints. Well, we don't necessarily have those constraints any more.
