Daggerfall Map Recreation

Post by VMblast » Mon Feb 11, 2019 2:15 pm

I wanted to do this for a long time and recent posts from King of Worms reminded me ;) . Tho I havent got too much time on my hand to make it fully detailed, I think this should do it for now. :P

PS - if anyone wants to modify it, use this HD version.

Very nice, esp that 3072*1920 res :)

As it is now, we have cca 3 versions including the one you just made.
Absolutely no idea what the fina output should be now - mind = blown

All scheme for a different art style. I love those varieties and alternatives you all create as content maker. Well done VMblast, MasonFace and KoW. :)

These are my superlatives:

VMBLast:
Pros:
  • Cleanest, especially with regards to borders (quite important for a map)
  • Highest Resolution
  • Best compass rose
Cons:
  • Not much detail
  • Missing a few lakes? Updated!

Masonface:
Pros:
  • Most Vanilla
  • Them mountains though
Cons:
  • Shoreline is messy
  • Trees are quite blurry
  • Quite a few AI upscaling artifacts scattered about (BN artifacts?)
KoW:
Pros:
  • Most artistic
  • Better tree detail
Cons:
  • Mountain texture looks a bit odd to me
  • Wear patterns are a bit excessive (particularly the color fading)
Just my thoughts. It would be interesting if we could somehow merge all the pros of each image together.

@MasonFace
Yep, you were right. I totally missed the lakes (on the original 320x240 map). Here's updated version.

PS - thats it for now. Unfortunately I havent got any more time to do (nitty-gritty) details, as would HD version demands. That would be too much trees and other stuff that I had to paint in. For now it should be enough just rough -wash- of the canopy. :P

Yes and it goes in the -nitty-gritty- details box. Tho maybe Ill rather have time to paint them in later (in contrast to the trees and mountains). :P

Ok :)

This is a test with N/E mountains and stone borders from MasonFace, new EXIT text, plus I cleaned that scratch mark and changed a colors a bit. I realized my version is lacking the lakes as well...
