How much interest in a Ranger type of guild?

Post by Ommamar »

I hadn't ever really played an archer although I have supplemented some build with the skill. I got to thinking about it and outside Witches coven none of the guilds really fit the idea of someone adept in the wilderness, a protector of that wilderness. So it made me think of how a guild dedicated to such a build would be, I have my thoughts I would like to hear yours on what the role of such a guild might be.

I'd say there's always room for anything that breathes more life into the game.

I agree with that Shinino but it is a matter of as a group what do we want to dedicate are time too, since you are the only person out of the 36 to have deigned to give a short answer it is harder to make an argument that such a project should be our focus. I might just go rogue and do it all myself but I have to work up my chops in Unity and the developmental tools designed for DFU before I can get to a point where that is feasible.

Not really sure what could be done in the wilderness that would require a guild for it.
now if it came along with random encounters, camping, or stuff like that then maybe. but it'd be a tall order.

Well some of the loose ideas thrown around is the cleansing/protection of shrines, towns, and outposts. The hunting down of beasts that move from city to city or just protection of a town from a rampaging horde. Finding bandit outposts to eliminate. Scouting of areas that involve a cartography system where you are required to use charcoal and parchments to make a map. Cleansing of an area from a Daedric poisoning scheme. Escort of a caravan, noble, or scholar where you had to use detection of enemies to choose the best route.
These are just some ideas that have been proposed, it is not really fleshed out. Again trying to gauge interest on where to put effort to. But there is also the position that says screw it this might be fun to play regardless of others participating.

I would definitely be interested in that sort of guild. You could gain a bonus (similar to the temple bonuses) that would give you a a chance based on your rank in the guild to pacify animals when you enter combat with themn and they could have an arrow crafting service that would let you make special arrows that deal bonus damage to certain monster types or inflict special effects.
You could even do a companions style questline and make them all secretly werewolves, and once you hit a certain rank you get the option to become a werewolf.

Yah it would make more sense for the arrows to have different material type then bows, but I am assuming it ties in with bows being weapons and there already being a system for weapon material types in the game. I definitely like the idea of a new system based of arrow material types.

Also thoughts of expanding the pacify system so it is more like a modern tame system allowing you to have animal companions. Then an ability to learn humanoid languages in a deeper way where you could actually interact with them on a minimal basis.

As for the werewovles idea not sure about that pretty easy to become infected with lycanthropy already and I never really dug the companion quest line in Skyrim. I could definitely see a theme of hunting down infected as being a over arching goal of the guild though.
