Texture replace SKY files?

Texture replace SKY files?

So I'm doing a little experiment with the classic SKY textures. But I'm not sure how (or even if) I get them to load in the game. The naming convention does not quite fit how the folders are named.

Can I rename the files:
SKY00.DAT_0-0.png
SKY00.DAT_0-1.png
etc?

Or is it:
SKY00_0-0.png
SKY00_0-1.png
etc?


I'd test, but there are so many files and so much hassle with macros to change all the images I figured I'd just ask here before proceeding.

Maybe someone will prove me wrong, but I think those textures are not moddable (yet)

A year ago I tried to run the classic backgrounds thru undither to remove the dithering in a smart way, and get smoother truecolor results...
First, it did not work perfectly, because undither assumes the Floyd-Steinberg algorithm was used, and a lesser algorithm has been used in Daggerfall skies (original image, and zoom on the shadow of the large cloud):

And secondly, I found no support for modded textures, even of the same resolution

Personally, I just wanted to make SKY textures that did not have the mountains in the horizon. They often look weirdly out of place with the long view distance and Mountains & Hills.

I can provide really nice quality upscales.. but yes, its not implemented :P

Thing is, it will still look off because of the way it is rendered...
