Banking and legal system

For whatever reason stuff like that Daggerfall has a banking system, and that you actually get dragged to court when arrested draw my attention with it. Maybe because these are unique to Daggerfall and can't be found in any of the other Elder Scrolls games. With that said the things that aren't there with these systems seem to jump out even more, and it'd be wonderful if these things could be expanded on.

Like if in banking there was actual accrued interest on accounts and loans. Also I know it's been discussed before if there could be real consequences for defaulting on loans. Though I'm not sure on specifically how I'd want to courts in Daggerfall to be improved on, I just feel like it'd be interesting if there was more to do when it comes to trying to avoid legal trouble.

I think I remember the banking part especially being talked about here quite a while ago, but it doesn't seem like that went anywhere. Is it just really hard to try to change anything with the baking stuff, or was it just the people involved not being able to agree on what they wanted?

Hi,
I think we rested on the idea that DFU should implement enough hooks for the quest system to pick up and implement how defaulting should be handled; But it stopped there.

Ah, I guess it makes sense that we'd basically need to wait on being able to make those changes. Though still. It just feels like the banks and courts are interesting areas where the game could be expanded on. The banks in particular.

There is a surprising amount of things you can edit with the various parts of the UI windows and windowmodes and such. Banking having it's own windowmode makes this even more possible to do for it specifically. So depending on what you want to do, with some pull requests to make some classes/methods virtual and override-able, it's totally possible to do more with the banking system as it is, with modding.

Well, none of the changes discussed before would involve a modification of the banking UI, as far as I can tell...

This would be pretty easy, once you found all the script objects from the banking script system.

You could just pull whatever numbers you needed, grab the time passed from the daggerfall unity engine, and then calculate interests.

Court system, I would like, in the long run, to see a more interactive system with differing choices and outcomes, from a knights duel to the death, to bribing with failure consequences, ect., ect.

Mostly with the idea of adding interest I think it'd be both fun and profitable to be able to earn interest on your bank account that normally just sits there, or have debt pile up if you don't regularly make payments. Of course the intrest earned on accounts would be lower than the interest cost on loans.

I just thought of an idea with implementing interest on accounts. Quests are one of the things people seem to have the most success adding to the game. So what if a 'quest' is silently started when you first deposit money into an account with an arbitrarily high amount of time to 'complete'. Then it 'finishes' when you next open up the banking screen, and awards interest based on the amount of time passed as tracked by the quest. Either directly to the bank account. Either that or giving it in gold to the player for them to re-invest if editing bank accounts runs into trouble. Lastly, the 'quest' is restarted to track time and do interest until the next time you open the banking window.

With some use of custom save-data, it would be fairly simple to keep track of deposited gold and apply interest to that value over set intervals of time.
