defamation quest residence woes

Post by jedidia »

I did one of the defamation quests. You know, the one where
Spoiler!
you are sent out to find out where rumors about a person originate, then find out he actually abducted his sisters lover, go to his house, steal thee letter, confront him and get sent to a dungeon to bail out the abductee, then return him back to the town and escort him to his home.
I'm practically done, being back in town with the rescued person, when there's a slight hickup: The residence he wants to be brought back to doesn't show up in the list of general locations to ask for. With the quest originating in the city of daggerfall, this is rather painful. I don't know if this is a bug that already existed in classic daggerfall or an oversight in the daggerfall unity quest system. It might be a good idea to fix it either way.

It also doesn't show up on the map when revealing all buildings in the console. I wonder whether it's registered at all?

What about the quest debugger (shift+tab) does that not mark the doors?
See my mod code for examples of how to change various aspects of DFU: https://github.com/ajrb/dfunity-mods

I've looked at it, but I don't really understand enough of what's written there to even identify the quest in question without a doubt. How would it mark the door, would I have to be close to it to see it?

The quest debugger places a marker directly over the door in the game world, like a quest marker in newer games. You have to be in same city as target location.

There's also a bug that was only fixed in last night's builds where a quest NPC can be assigned to incorrect building in a different town. If you've run afoul of this one (highly likely), quest will be impossible to complete in the normal way. If you can attach a zipped copy of your save, I'm happy to try and help locate the target so you can complete quest. :)

Ha, looks like I've been so focused on the information in the debugger that I didn't even notice there were markers placed on the screen!

Apparently it's not this one, since I *do* have a marker for the residence when the debugger is open. It still doesn't show up when revealing buildings or asking townsfolk, though, so it seems something else is off. I've attached a save file anyways in case it might help you look for the bug, but you don't have to fix anything in it, looks like I'm good. Thanks a lot for the offer in any case!

Great, it doesn't sound like that specific bug then. Possibly just the building name not showing in talk window. There's at least one known bug around this that could be contributing here. As long as you were able to progress using the debug marker, that's the main thing. :)
