New to DF and it's hard to follow quests...

Hi,

I just joined in to write down a bug report on a quest I encountered but after searching the web and the forums here things here are not so easy.
First to say: I'm new to DF and don't have the background and the technical knowledge of how the game handles things, so please be patient =).

I love quest logs, journal entries and the notification system of the game but most of the time they are confusing.

Let's start with the first quest: Lady Brisiena.
Why is this quest still active in my Journal after I have met her in a tavern? The last Journal entry
I met with Lady Brisienna in a tavern room. She told me that the three major powers of the Iliac bay are Daggerfall, Wayrest, and Sentinel. If I am to investigate the mystery of Lysandus' ghost, I should start by speaking with the royal families of these fiefdoms.
marks this quest as finished according to the UESP wiki. Should it not be moved to Finished Quests?

The second thing is the letter I have got from Princess Morgiah inviting me to meet her in Castle Wayrest. Even after finishing her first quest Morgiah's Wedding this invitation letter is still in my inventory. Should it not be gone like other quest items after they are finished?

Later I have recieved a pop-up message:
A young lad with the Rose of Wayrest embroidered on his surcoat appears at your side, hands you an engraved card, and disappears.
This card does not apper in the inventory. Only by searching the web I found out it's an invitation card to Morgiah's Wedding. How I was supposed to know? Did I miss something? There is no quest log entry for this. What I should do now?

The wedding card bug has been reported since several years. Could a more consisten quest flow be implemented? How about adding the text from pop-ups to the journal like the dialogue function Copy to Logbook? I realy like this function.

There should be a more stringent way for the quest flow like:

1. A pop-up message with a Copy to Logbook feature.
2. A letter/card/ invitation in my inventory if mentioned in the pop-up.
3. A entry in the Quest Log after I have read the letter in my inventory or met the requirements of the pop-up message (meeting someone for instance)
4. Now the item from 2. should dissapear.
5. After finishing the quest it should be moved into the Finished Quests Log.

I know what you're thinking: Aha, Mr Smartypants want's to teach us how it works =)
Don't missunderstand this as ranting, I belive you all have done a marvelous job with DFU.
Maybe I just don't get it by now, maybe it's a good idea for a mod or maybe I have found a bug worth reporting.
In the last case I can provide some saves. I'm using:

interkarma-daggerfall-unity-daggerfallunity_windows_x64-96
DFU Alpha 0.10.4

So that's all. Maybe someone could give me a heads up how to handle quests progression, especially the Morgiah's Wedding card one.

This message is part of the backbone quest. It's to remind you the next step is to speak with royalty to get some leads on the next stages of the main quest. The backbone quest runs in the background until you've completed the game. The quest to meet with Lady B has ended though and will expire out after a short amount of time. This behaviour matches classic.

The item will persist until the quest script completes running. That particular quest has a long timer at the end that will start the next stage upon completion. The item will persist until then.

This one has the opposite issue. The quest is ending immediately after delivering the letter so the item vanishes. The quest needs to spin for a while longer for item to persist, or DFU could hold onto item during tombstone period (quest ended but not expired off quest machine). I'm not sure, but I think this behaviour diverges in DFU's emulation of classic quest scripts.

Thank you for answering.

So there are script timers with different lenghts, ok, didn't know that. It's hard to tell if one has run into a bug, missed something or if it's fine the way it goes.

The wedding card is still problematic, as the player will never know there is a wedding happening, right? Or is there still something waiting for me? Didn't want to spoil myself by reading about furure quests.

There is no wedding, in reality. It's more like a spoiler for an event Bethesda never elaborated on. It's one of Daggerfall's many incursions on a space they weren't able to properly flesh out :(

I'm going to add a 24-hour space to the wedding invitation since this is a question we get a lot. It isn't perfect but it'll at least give people a chance to read it.
