Random encounters in the wilderness as a quest.

Post by Midknightprince » Wed Sep 06, 2017 7:58 pm

@Jay_H
Is there a way you can make an ongoing quest that just makes random wild creatures (rats, bears, sabertooth cats..etc..) spawn on Characters out in the wilderness or even in town while not fast traveling ?
Maybe 4 or 5 at a time to make things interesting ?
Maybe a 10% chance to spawn every in game hour, day and night, so you could (in theory) still get some rest?
Or just make the duration maxed, and when it fails, just restart it at any fighters guild ?
Sort of like a stop gap untill we get random spawns on the overworld map ?
I want to walk to quest locations, and just flat out explore but it sure gets boring out there.
Just an idea :?:

Right now I'm limited in the sense that I can only work with, or away from, specific locations or everywhere. In the future if we could define quest locations like "outdoors," "away from civilization," and so on, that'd open a lot of doors in terms of new methods of delivery. In that case, I could make a condition like, "when not in cities or any building" and spawn like that.

If it's just for traveling between cities, all I can offer you is this zip file (Google Drive). Unzip it into your \DaggerfallUnity_Data\StreamingAssets\Quests folder, and then in-game use the console command "startquest RANDOM." It'll spawn enemies inside buildings and so on, but it's about as close as we'll come. I've set it for a 30-day timer just in case it somehow can't be ended with "purgeallquests." If you want to stop it, use the "purgeallquests" command, and if you want to start it do the startquest again.

Or make it an endurance Quest, so you can put your writting skills to work...
PC has to survive random attacks from creatures for %amount of time.
Day, and night.
Anything, it doesn't just have to be wild creatures.
Survival = success.
Then you just start over.
It happens in that dungeon with the mad Druid, and on the farm with the tigers and bears...

Sure, that wouldn't be too hard to implement. I was planning on doing it inside an enclosed place like a palace, but maybe a house would work better (knowing how buggy spawning can be inside palaces). I'd do it outdoors but it seems too easy to me to outrun enemies in the open space until they stop moving... Tell me where you want it to happen and I'll do it.

Yeah, the random quest will spawn a bunch of ordinary enemies everywhere, maybe a couple per hour. You won't find vampires or daedra in there, so it should be a bit realistic.

All right, I'll give it a shot. Give me some time to think up some plausible scenario and I'll see how I can make it work :)

Sounds good! :) Let me know if the frequency is too high or too low.
