[DFUnity] Polish translation

I just started working on Polish translation. So far I started translating main Daggerfall UI. The only problem I have right now is lack of polish characters in current font. Would I need to download Unity to add missing characters? In game they're just replaced with question marks.

Welcome to the forums Jebany czarodziej,

I assume you also asked the question on Reddit, and got an answer there?

As a general rule of thumb. Always try first to translate the original game, instead of DFUnity. Makes things a lot easier afterwards, as DFUnity is in most cases just a "bridge" to the original files, which have to be altered (TEXT.RSC e.g.) externally. Furthermore translation feature isn't fledged out yet and we should give Interkarma time to do it. Besides, you can nevertheless already translate the whole game. For more information, see my pinned thread.

As all the other language translations did, you can edit the four font files in Daggerfall with the font editor by Idrachod. You replace characters, which you don't need in your language and replace them with your special characters (ą, ć, ł, ź). Before you ask, yes you have to draw them ;-)

That's the way for Daggerfall classic, and I assume it won't be compatible with Daggerfall Unity, that can use Unicode for example

It should be possible, if you exchange the font files in streaming assets. I will take a look, when I am back at home, but I am quite sure, that I tried it (in an earlier version of DFUnity) and the German Umlauts has been visible. Let me double check though, as you are much deeper into the technical part of DFUnity. :)

There are also a bunch of strings hardcoded in DFU that will become available for translation in Beta stage. Check the roadmap on dfworkshop.nets main site for a bit more info

Yes, it was my understanding that Interkarma planned to work on text handling, including localization support, this very month, but this is now delayed.
What needs to be done to translate Daggerfall Unity in a different language should a lot clearer afterward.

Thank you Pango. Yep, things have taken a turn in the last couple of weeks and my free time has evaporated.

I'm still keen to back into the localisation features as soon as possible. I think I'll hit a new status quo in another few weeks and will be able to schedule more free time again.

If I would get permission to translate DREAM textures, how would I need to go about it? How can I edit .dfmod file? Do I need to have Unity for this?

You can not edit .dfmod files, only export script files using the Extract function in DFU but that won't help you in this case.

You'd need to ask KoW for the source images, edit those directly, rebuild the mod and release it. And yes, for the rebuilding part you'll need Unity.
