The *Unofficial* KoW Extreme texture pack XL* 2 versions until 1/1/19

This is an alternative to KoW Daggerfall Remaster, do not use both... 2 VERSIONS UNTIL 1/1/19, READ BELOW..

*I have also decided to go with LESS XML files, and LESS bump maps on the Grafon master textures, for a more vanilla look, so take note..
I will remove the previous version on 1/1/19, so if you really want to make your eyes bleed, like I "used too", then get to first DL, after that it will go bye bye*

The goal of this is to give people more choice with a completed texture pack, to try and change stuff up while still being vanilla friendly, and to make DFU look as pretty as possible by manually going into the textures folder, changing some textures in some places, or adding an Xml file to them if it looks good.

You can alternatively play this with point filter on, as the town NPC's, and all hostile enemy Sprites, are no longer in this pack (Only Npcs IN locations, are in this pack), so if you still want that vanilla feel, with a really pretty world to look at,I have set it up to be doable that way..
Just turn on point, and done.

*Simply backup your textures folder, delete or move it, and unzip this one in its place into DaggerfallUnity_Data\StreamingAssets.
*Pick your filter settings
*Make sure allow modded textures is turned ON.
*Start the game.

FYI Info...

*The textures for the compass mod, and the clock mod are already packed in, you still need the .dfm file for the clock, but the compass will work out of the box (link for the clock mod ).

*Make sure you meet the specs,I recommend at least 16 gigs of ram, and at the minimum a 2-4 gig 3D card.
The file size after extract is 2.10 gigs, and that's all for the video card, so.... Mileage may vary..

* You cannot randomly switch out an Xml file in this pack, and slap it on another texture.
Each one has been tweaked separately (that's right), not by looking at numbers, or texture sets, but by loading the game, looking at it, and tweaking things accordingly.
Sometimes this takes 10 minutes, sometimes an hour, so experiment at your discretion.

*This pack is more hardware intensive than the default KoW pack.

Tested ONLY on I5 2300@2.8GHz, 24 gig@1333, Gforce GTX 1050Ti OC 4gig. Win10X64 (latest as of 10/14/18) with 60+ fps.

*This will NOT work on a 32 bit OS*

Texture pack DL ... 90ELNzHF3U (switching over completely 1/1/19)

*Took out XML file for some wood textures to fix the shininess on some wooden roofs.
*Removed ALL non-vanilla friendly sprites (NPC's, and Flats).
*Removed ALL non-vanilla friendly textures in Mantellan Crux.
*Reworked Mantellan Crux textures to make it look like the epic place it is.
*Fixed floor textures in castle interiors
*Swapped out some door textures that were a bit too pretty.
*Took some unused textures out of folder
*Reduced size of most Grafon Master textures, and corresponding bump maps (about 50 files bringing total file size from 3.37 Gb to 3.19 Gb).
*swapped out some textures for KoW pack 3.0 update.
*Changed reflective qualities on some floor textures to look more appealing.
*Changed some textures in Orsinium throne room, and some on the outside to make it a bit more epic (and shiny).
*changed bush textures to use the Grafon Master textures (nice pretty bushes)
*tweaked floors for some mountain region interiors, and swapped out some textures that didn't quite fit.
*tweaked XML. files for some temples, and the castle interiors
*changed the wood textures for the big tree dungeon exteriors/boats
*swapped out some missing NPC sprites with new ones
*Took out ALL hostile enemy Sprites, except Corpses, to save on file size and performance.
*Took out the cheesy looking wood textures and replaced with better looking ones (beams, walls etc...)
*Replaced the temperate terrain textures ( Daggerfall, Wayrest Etc) with more vanilla friendly textures ( just the ground outside).
*Removed some cheesy looking interior textures, and replace them with better ones.
*Took out ALL menu Replacements that did not keep the feel of classic Daggerfall (background, words etc...)
*Took out ALL non vanilla-friendly dungeon ornament sprites (skulls etc...).
*removed most XML.files on textures that don't directly benefit from them visually.
*Changed some info in the documentation, and the credits.
*New file size 2.10 GIG after install.
*Found the LAST really pretty un-vanilla npc sprites, and removed them (only KoW remastered npc sprites are in here now for sure this time :)).
*Reworked the wood textures,
*Changed some temple wall textures.
*Removed some Grafon master exterior wall textures, and replaced them with yet more KoW exterior wall textures.
*Took out ALL NPC talk window textures to save on performance, and size.
*Removed some tree textures to save on performance, and size, where the vanilla tree's aren't too bad (temperate, and mountain region only), if you want them all, DL the default KoW texture pack...
*Took out a bunch of XML files, and bump map files when I realized how funky the stuff looks (thanks to JHova for being honest, and stubborn ;) )
*Took out a bunch of the menu textures, because after all, I like the classic look, if you want the pretty NEW stuff, DL the default KoW's pack..

I also recommend changing how DFU uses dungeon textures in the launcher, fiddle with the setting and pick what you like best.
For ref mine is set to classic, if you want it to look like mine, there you go.
Classic seems to be a nice mix of new stuff, while still keeping each dungeon/region feeling unique.
The others seem to be randomized to much for me, but to each his own..

Hi, thanks for updating the description Midknight ;)

Just one question:

"You can alternatively play this with point filter on, as the town NPC's are no longer in this pack" - does this mean the point filter is the cause of the flickering NPCs? Because to my knowledge, the texture compression is the case? When I turn the compression OFF, I can set whatever filtering I want and NPCS do NOT flicker.

Thanks! Good luck with the project!

PS: Just downloaded the pack and checked some of the textures and you should double-check some textures like archive 135 136 139 and simillar, those vanilla looking textures are IMO better in v3.0 than the old 2.0 you used... and are more performance friendly as well, just compare the size... there are lots of 2.0 textures/sprites in this pack + redundant textures I removed from 3.0 because they just prolong the loading times and bloat the archive size and are not really ingame, like the 005, 195 archives etc.

IMO best results would be to start from scratch, use 3.0 as a baseline and than add/change what you decide. That way, it will just work better.

Another example are the tapestries, for ex v2.0 057_0-0 you used is 2.79mb big, in v3.0 its just 550kb and looks EXACTLY the same and have even the same resolution - they were a part of my optimalization pass I did in v3.0. There are lots of those tapestries and they kill the RAM... and lots of textures in v3.0 are improved this way

TLDR: You are using old unoptimized 2.0 textures in many places without any visual gains but contrary + loads of unused textures I removed in 3.0

Just a idea tho, do as you decide ;) And please, just take it as a advice, not a blind criticism. I like the general idea of this project.

Wow, thank you for that.
Seriously, it makes me happy :D
I thought I had the latest pack, I'll go thru and change stuff this weekend.
I am kinda going nuts editing vids....

So how does it feel to have an "unofficial" texture pack named after you ;)

You are welcomed, I want your version of a mod to be as good as possible, so I offer a basic level of a quality control here.

I really recommend starting from scratch. Make a new textures directory and place 3.0 inside. Than start switching the textures you feel are better than mine and than copy the xml files and normals. Also, the textures from Grafon are unoptimized. It would be great if you can go thru them and normalize the resolution of those to something reasonable, like 512x1024 for things like building tiles, and 512x512 or 1024x1024 for floors. Use photoshop and set the "nearest neighbor" resampling to get as much detail from the textures a s possible.

Anything bigger than the resolutions I stated is just a waste of resources. Than upload it and I can go thru it and optimize it further for you using SLADE palette conversion, that can reduce the size even 10x without any compromise in a visual fidelity.

Having my name there is ok, but my huge ego does not like the last place in a credits :P

Good luck!

Lol, fair enouph, the NPCs flickering seems to be just compression.
That's the only time I see it, and your right about the those textures.
Its them, and the .Xml files.
I think that's what's overloading my ram in dungeons.

Hey I was thinking about a pack with no new Npcs', You'd be surprised how many people tell me they want vanilla Npcs'.
So just architecture I'm thinking, maybe if enough people bug me..

I think I got pack 3.0 yesterday, and I updated twice, when did you check ?
Before I start going nuts in my folder again....

P.s. Fixed your positioning on the creds ;)

Wow, ya'll moved this thing ?
I am honored !!
Hey King just a heads up, I am turning all those textures you talked about into 800 by 800 like it looks like a bunch are in the folder, so I'm going with that.
So if I make them too small, they look to streached, so I left one, but changed the rest.
Pretty good, I just used pain, just resized everything, pretty simple..
