[MOD] Villager Variety

Villager Variety 1.0

This mod adds a huge variety of unique faces and different outfits to all of the villagers living in the Iliac Bay. Whereas vanilla Daggerfall has only 24 distinct villagers, Villager Variety currently adds an additional 768. Villagers' faces also now match their conversation portraits, greatly improving immersion. We will add more variations with every update.

This mod is still a work in progress. If you are a pixel artist and would like to contribute faces, portraits, or additional body variants to the project, please send a sample of your work to me or Hazelnut and we'll welcome you to the team!

Highly recommended: Villain Variety (https://www.nexusmods.com/daggerfallunity/mods/244) and Animated People (https://www.nexusmods.com/daggerfallunity/mods/227)

Play with Hazelnut's Roleplay & Realism mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/daggerfallunity/mods/16), which has a new module that places villagers inside houses. Villager Variety should also be compatible with Kamer's VIO mod (except for its optional sprite pack).

Made some corrections and additions and released v0.8 on Nexus: https://www.nexusmods.com/daggerfallunity/mods/219/. Currently, the mod adds 720 unique villagers compared to vanilla Daggerfall's grand total of 24. More to come in the future. We might also do an HD version if there's interest.

I really love this mod and now consider it to be essential. :mrgreen: Nice to see some variety especially the portraits! A good competitor to VIO.

1 thing I'd like to suggest that VIO has are night time guard patrols, they are more or less re-skinned villagers but they added so much immersion seeing them walk around cities and towns at night with torches out.

Hi Emma the Pony,

This mod is compatible with the core VIO mod, just not the villager sprite packs. The guards are changed by the core mod I think, well I see torch carrying guards anyway, so you should be able to get the guard changes and carry on using VV which is focussed on the townspeople.

Oh wow so both mods are compatible. But I heard VOI is buggy so I uninstalled it for now. :arrow:

did the guards ever consistently defend you in town if you were attacked with the VIO? i recall people saying the guards would not act in character with enemies.. so i will keep with villager variety if that is still the case.

The added guards never attacked enemies, only the normal ones (they do this in DFU under one of the new settings anyway).

oh so the guards aren't that useful then?
i uninstalled VIO so don't quite remember how it worked.

I'm not aware this is the case. Are you sure? I thought VIO was the only way for guards to fight enemies.

If you're being chased by enemies, commit a crime (which spawns guards), those guards will attack the enemies in addition to you.
