Re: Daggerfall Unity Quest Pack #1

Now I feel really dumb  ! For some reason, when I went to GitHub, my screen resolution was too high and the right hand portion was cut off. The farthest l I could see to the right was 'Wat' of the Watch box at the top, and I didn't think to scroll right! Thanks much and sorry for the screwup.

BTW, the new build is outstanding, with (IMHO) several game-changing updates - e.g. the U key, potion making, racial attributes and vampirism. I am looking forward to magic item making being enabled in the future.

Thanks again!

No problem, we're here to help :) These builds are awesome stuff!

Feel free to give any feedback about the quests. I have almost no guidance on how easy or hard they should be so some will be really, really unfair. I'll change them once I hear enough about them.

Had the quest where you
Spoiler!
escort a teacher and some apprentice mages around
Spoiler!
to a graveyard, shrine, and farmstead.
Got attacked by an Orc while tedious travelling, and rather than either dodge-dodge blast so my magicka had time to regenerate, or cast Efficient Regeneration and beat them down while (mostly) invulnerable, I cast Efficient Regeneration, blasted the marauder with lightning bolts till my magicka was too low, then beat them down with my staff, forcing them back and away from the (virtual) group I was (RP'ing) protecting.
It was fun, and a new experience. Love that quest. :) It's simple, easy, and with Warm Ashes, can get you ambushed by zombies, skeletons, and what looked (and sounded, from the boom!) like a lich. Fortunately, carts are fast. And I'm not playing Ironman. Heh.
Previous experience tells me it's very easy to misunderstand the tone, intent, or meaning of what I've posted. If you have questions, ask.

I'm trying to get more ideas for simple travel like that without making it too trite. If I did something similar for a temple, would people just consider it "another travel quest?" It'd be better to have some other hook involved in it, but I can't think of anything meaningful.

1) Perhaps guarding a group going on pilgrimage to a shrine, with possible Daedric interference?

2) For a temple-related Commoner quest, guarding someone infected with Lycanthropy to a temple, with a one-to-three-day failure limit (after which, well... ), and the possibility of interference from the clan of lycanthropes who infected them?

3) A particular apparition needs a specific holy item to banish, which as at (shrine, temple, or was lost in dungeon), and you have to return with it. Of course, certain groups might not want it found again...

4) Someone has committed grave sin against their deity. As penance, they must visit three different, randomly-generated (shrines, temples). However, their former fellows do not want them to finish this penance, and are willing to resort to force...

5) Or, related, a vampire hasn't found a cure - However, for living (or close enough) a virtuous life (never drinking blood from people, etc), they have been promised that, as long as they stay at $temple, they will be free from their affliction - not cured, but their vampirism will not affect them there. You must guard them to $temple. Be warned, their former fellows will be after them, to dissuade them, or slay them if they will not be dissuaded.

6) Related to previous quest, a vampire has been peacefully staying under the protection of a temple for (years, decades, centuries). However, (someone they love/a living descendent/a close friend and confidant) has been kidnapped to force them out of that protection. However, having heard of your fame, they are willing to wait X days for you to rescue $Name before going themselves. (This quest and the previous one would be for characters with a high reputation, naturally. :) )

7) The PC themselves are given a pilgrimage to a shrine, and an item to give to the shrine-keeper. Forces may attempt to steal it. (Not much there, but it could turn into a plot about keeping an important item out of the wrong hands; or just be a quest to visit a shrine).

8) $PCName, this is very unfortunate, but we were going through our archives, and, well, it seems that we have $Item. Yes, the same one that $(shrine, temple) has been looking for, for (years, decades, centuries). Could you do us a favour and run this $Item down, along with this formal apology?

9) As it turns out, one of the members of $Guild is actually a (necromancer, lich, vampire). It's quite embarrassing for them, and also very dangerous, so they came to us for help. (Could turn into #4 or #5).

Anyway, some quest ideas, not all of them about travelling. :)

Edit: #5 was inspired by a published World's Most Famous Tabletop RPG story I read, when I was young. :)

Still working for me, the pq's have been active this whole time ( we're talking months of different builds, and no need to start this thing over it just works).

What is the quest where I have to go into the dungeon and there's that Lich and I have to fight through all his guys and then when I find him I have to make my way out before his Undead hordes eat my brains and there is like a billion of them ?
Just tell me where to get it, I don't think it was the Fighters Guild, that was the only Guild you could get quests at back then, or what's the quest number ?

I need to do that Quest man, repeatedly, yeah just tell me the number and where I get it please man please...

JHMGX00 ?

So you can't start quest in the console anymore ?

I actually deleted that one by accident a few months ago :D I had thught about rewriting it but I've never done it. It was JHMGX00 or 00X, I can't remember. The closest equivalent is JHKN019, but you'll never beat that one.

To start a quest by console, you'll have to copy it into your Quests folder. They can't run from the QuestPacks folder.

Why would you need to re-write it? All your quests are in git aren't they? Easy to get from history - just get in touch and I'll help ya mate. And if it was pre-git I may have it on my disk somewhere.

Ah, excellent point. I don't think I ever stored it on my github, but I have an old copy in my Google Drive. I didn't think to look there. Thanks Hazelnut, good thinking. I'll add it in now.

midknightprince, it's now called JHMGX00. It requires 95 reputation and will only ever be offered once to your character, so keep your eyes open for it :) You can move it into the Quests folder if you want to start it from the console instead, which obviates the one-time limit.
