Of course, you're right.

/sigh .. my eyes were attracted by the larger "Read The Guide" button at the top of the page and it was wading through that which made me think life's too short to start learning again, though having now clicked the other green button I see that maybe I could haveleveraged my SVN experience.

However, I've now downloaded the ZIP file it offered and it seems perhaps I have some light bedtime reading .. who knows, maybe I'll even get to build the thing if VS2017 can do so.

You need Unity to build it. If you decide to go that far, download Unity Hub and install Unity version 2018.2.21f1.

Then if you open the folder that you extracted the ZIP contents to in Unity, you can build it from there.
