That I can cast free action spell while Im paralyzed?

Actually this is not a trivial question!
I just checked The Daggerfall Chronicles, and it describes the Free Action spell effect as "[c]auses target to be resistant to paralysis" (p. 109). This conforms with my vague memory that suggests the spell must be cast before fighting with an enemy that can cast or otherwise inflict this condition.
However, the Potion of Free Action is said on p. 125 to "Cure Paralysis".
