Yes!

Lot's if games have that WOAH!! moment when you turn round and there's a monster, or you almost get killed.

But Dangerous Daggerfall is the only one that I have found scary, with really spooky music. Crikey, even the scary music can freak me out! And unlike the Magnificent Morrowind and Spectacular Skyrim, if we don't rest we can collapse of exhaustion and get eaten by monsters!

:D

Yes and no. 0.5 is going to be finished quite soon, likely within a few weeks. After that 0.6, 0.7, and 0.8 are going to fall like dominoes. Other contributors already did almost all the work there.

Interkarma has said at some point next year a real 1.0 is likely. He doesn't like to put a solid date since it depends a lot on him and his work and other IRL factors. But for now we're already very close to classic in features :D

Just to expand on Jay's post, I hope to exit pre-alpha in the first half on 2019, which indicates broad parity with classic Daggerfall. Then we still have alpha and beta to get through before 1.0, which will focus more on finishing Daggerfall Unity features (e.g. improving translation support).

I don't have a timeframe on 1.0 - it could still be some time away.

I'm wodering, can you actually *fail* a climbing check at the moment? My character totally sucks at climbing, yet I've never fallen off a wall so far.

I totally love the adjustable ambient light for dungeons, by the way. :)
Now if only we had working lanterns...

Heaps of kudos to IK and all the devs for more excellent progress. There are already significant improvements on original DF and the game is very playable as is. :D

But I have to say that it doesn't have "dragon stalking" or mammoths plummeting from the sky, like a pro game should.

A while ago I was watching a Let's Play of Skyrim by one of my favorite YouTubers. He had based his game on being completely in-character and totally immersive.

Then he comes out of a cave and watches a pair of mammoths gently descend from the sky to their deaths. He just said, "Um... I can't. I just can't. I've got to ignore that. Sorry everyone. There's no way."

 If he was really quick thinking, he might have said something like, "So Sheogorath is up to his tricks again." I don't pretend that I would have done any better than him, though.

That would probably be my exact in-character reaction.
