Betrayal At Krondor taught me to read english books and led me into the Reymond E Feists book series.

I’ve often wanted to try replaying it now that I actually know how to play rpgs and read english properly.

Yeah, though I never really got into the game as much as I wanted, it's one of those games I like the idea of more than the game itself, when Feist started being published here in Brazil some years ago, I got all his Riftwar books (basically just the first two trilogies, though Magician was published in two volumes), that said, I've only read the first volume of Magician so far (Apprentice).

For me it would be Red Storm Rising, a submarine sim inspired by the Tom Clancy&Larry Bond book of the same name.

The game was really awesome in its time (the Amiga version had much better visuals than the PC Dos version)., with a dynamic campaign that you influenced for your side in a good or bad way depending on the results of your patrols.

Each encounter with enemy ships and fleets was taking place in a very good and enjoyable (if you like subsims of course) real time hunter&prey stealth situation in which the hunter role could be reversed if you made a mistake while your were trying to identify the target without getting noticed yourself before positionning your sub and attacking, the modern sub style made also for a different gameplay than ww2 styled one as you had better electronic to help you, but the enemy also had it against you

The gameplay was incredibly solid and well thought, there was some good element of simulation but it was simplified in a good way as it felt realistic but not hardcore realistic, a good choice to bring people into enjoying the game even if they weren't looking for an indepth subsim.

In recent years, there was the commercial Cold Waters and the excellent freebie Sub Commander that were more or less inspired by Red Storm Rising, but i have always dreamed of playing Red Storm Rising but with all the quality of life, smoothness and various other real improvement DFU did for Daggerfall.

+/- 10 years ago on a Subsim.com thread dedicated to Red Storm Rising i saw a video from a guy that was doing exactly what i hoped, an actual Red Storm Rising remake, but one day he took down not only his website but even all the videos that were on youtube. He had started work on the AI if i remember well when everything went to full stop for unknown reason.

Ok, there is one more game... but that one is basically a game I want to create. If I ever create a game, which I hope I will :D

Tie Fighter (1994, DOS)

My one silly additional feature I'd hope for would be a dynamic campaign, or some kind of procedural war generator.

A dynamic war/campaign in a Tie/XWing setting would be awesome.
At some point i had high hopes once the Starshatter: The Gathering Storm game had source code released to the fans, the game was based around dynamic campaigns and was also moddable as there had been a few mods during its time, so if the game could be improved it could lead into some excellent dynamic space battle system for various space mods and themes.

Sadly after a good start , development went nowhere as unfortunately the only coding-able people lost interest, sad as there was so much potential.

Thinking about it, a Freespace 2 with a dynamic campaign would also be amazing, too bad their campaigns are only separated mission based, would need some in depth coding to be able to implement such a feature as the mission editor would probably run into limitations

Two strategy games I would love to see get a DFU-like treatment are Caesar II and Emperor: Battle for Dune. Both good games but the engines of especially the former are showing their ages.

Besides that, would love to see DFU itself get extended to support Battlespire and maybe other XnGine games. Probably wishful thinking though since Interkarma has said that he's not interested.

Caesar, Pharaoh, Zeus. Basically that whole city building line from Sierra.

The first Dune game from Cryo too although the original runs fine in Dosbox.

Those Caesar mention made me remember to point it :
Caesar3 got an an open source re-implementation of the engine : Julius with some interface improvement, better compatibility with modern OS and perfect windowed mode
https://github.com/bvschaik/julius
(requires to have Caesar3)

There also exist a fork of Julius named Augustus that goes much further as it adds new building, new mechanics (the roadblocks from Pharaoh by example) and more quality of life (zooming in/out with mousewheel by example)
https://github.com/Keriew/augustus
(also requires to have Caesar3)

Basically play Caesar3 with Julius if you want the Caesar3 default experience but with improvement and better OS compatibility, play Caesar3 with Augustus if you want more than only the default Caesar3 experience.

I regularly play with Augustus and it's fantastic.

Oooh, I will have to give that a try. I did manage to get Pharaoh in windowed mode using DxWnd but it was awkward to say the least.
