Hi Everyone.

I was reading in this Forum for a long time already, but only signed up today.
I also want to thank the whole Daggerfall Unity team for the work they've done and the work they will do in the future.
I've got my first Daggerfall copy right when it was released, even with all the bugs it had it has been one of my favourite Games of all time,it basicly never left my Harddrive in all those years, though I don't own my first copy anymore, but got another one off ebay some years ago. Since the original didn't run so well on ,at the time, "newer" machines with WinXP and up I switched over to playing it via DosBox,which was sometimes a bit troublesome to set up properly for me.
Later I found a Windows Installer, put together by Ancestral Ghost I believe, which did all the setting up for me automaticly and it also included all those official and unofficial patches and quests aswell.
The next step up is Daggerfall Unity and I'm very happy that I have found out about this project, looks like good old Daggerfall will stay on my Harddrive for the years to come.

Welcome to the forums Lausbub78!
Seems like many of us here share a part of the same story -> we played this game in a 90s and are hooked for life ever since

Oh well, I've just discovered this thread, so thought I'd better write a belated something, as I've been irritating devs by reporting bugs that weren't bugs, you know how it goes.

I have spent most of my career in IT, as a systems and business analyst, arguing with people about the third normal form of commercial databases and so on. :geek: I never had the patience for programming, although more recently I had a spell of doing all aspects of websites, including server side processing (ASP), SQL and other technologies. My specialism was in hand-crafting websites to make them as accessible as I could for as many people with different types of impairments as possible.

I've played all the Elder Scrolls games except ESO. Daggerfall I played a lot back in the day, until Morrowind arrived. I've always loved the open-world element in Bethesda games.

I actually started with a Commodore 64 playing adventure games like The Hobbit and TKV - that's Twin Kingdom Valley. I switched to RPGs fairly soon, graduated to Amiga and Atari ST and finally PCs. Never had a console, never wanted one, console is a dirty word with me because of the consolitis mess of vanilla Skyrim, or should I say Legendary Edition?

But modders saved Skyrim and enabled me to get years of enjoyment out of it and now similar wonderful people are giving Daggerfall a new and better lease of life. You can play DFU already and do 90% of what you could do in classic, there are real quality of life improvements, it's stable and I've yet to encounter any major bugs, and it has so much potential, and it's still only given the label pre-alpha. I hope there will be a temple to the devs in the game, a cathedral of IK. After all, the game world should be big enough. ;)

Btw, my stupid alias is just a priest character I played in Skyrim. Role playing in the classic sense isn't easy in Skyrim, because it has followed the modern trend towards RPG-action hybrids. That's another reason to welcome DFU. Put the RP back into the G.

Did you fight yourself over which one was better?

Amiga forever!

:D

Welcome, glad you like DFU.

Um, I confess to being a fence-sitter. I bought the 520 ST first, then an Amiga. It was just a case of which games were easy to obtain in my part of the world on which platform(s), as the improving specs allowed rapid evolution of games. I threw away all the games from that era, unfortunately. The earliest stuff I have left is lots of PC stuff from about 1991/92. I've got the manuals and floppies, but no boxes.

...Did someone say Amiga?

That is not dead which can eternal lie, and in strange FPGA Amiga upgrade projects, even death may die:

They're working on a standalone version. I am very excited. :D

They're also working on adding Atari ST support, so you don't have to choose. :)

Damn! If only I'd had the storage space for those games. Love the HPL misquote, btw.

You can still get some things legally - For example, last I checked, the original developer had the original Frontier/Elite games up for free download. And some people are making new games. Plus, there's shareware, freeware.

I Am Not A Lawyer: Or depending on jurisdiction, there may be copyright exemptions.

I've been stalking these forums for quite a while but finally decided jump in and join the conversations. I first played Daggerfall back in... uh, was it '96? Installed the demo from the PC Gamer CD and wore that thing out! To echo KoW, I was hooked!

I followed the development of DaggerXL for a long long time and was excited about DFU, especially since I'm somewhat familiar with Unity. I first started messing with Unity back in, ummm maybe 2012 or so... I think it was Unity 3.x at that point, though I may be mistaken. I've been working with it off and on ever since but only in the capacity of a hobbyist.

Anyhow, I'm looking to put my skills to good use here! In fact, I'm working on a little som'n som'n that may interest some folks in the community, so look out for me in the Creator's Corner in the coming weeks! :D
