Dev build/Linux: slaughterfish out of water [RESOLVED]

Post by pango »

Opened a door, expecting a tiger from the noise, and faced a slaughterfish.
I have AlternateRandomEnemySelection enabled, so that could be a bug with that.

I've had that a couple of times in a particular block, in a room right at the top of the block in different dungeons. I do not have the alternaterandomenemyselection switched on. I have a definite feeling that the fish out of water is something classic DF used to do, as well.

One time I met this in DFU was today, so I went there in classic DF as well and there was no enemy there at all. Is placement of non-quest enemies in classic DF partly randomised?

Can provide saves from both games in that room, if required. This was in Build #139, win 10 x64

I don't remember fishes out of water in classic, but Daggerfall world is huge...

And I just did the same dungeon twice in classic, and just like you the room was empty both times...

Looking at your save, were you in Wayrest/Tristyrick Lab? Because that contains a block that is the one where I encountered the slaughterfish in Alik'r. The block is W0000017.RDB. I think this is a variant of a block type that usually doesn't have water in it, according to https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Dungeons. I also think it doesn't appear very often.

Another one from Lysabyth Tradition, Wayrest.
Looks like the same block, it seems you're right.
The slaughterfish doesn't show up in classic though (or maybe elsewhere), so it could be an issue interpreting that dungeon block... or classic having a sanity check that hides the issue
