Help I'm a noob to mods

Post by Dem »

Hey been playing DF since it was a beta freeware! Love the game but it has issues with breaking down. I have only the basic game from the complete eldar scrolls box set and need a few pointers to where safe downlod sites are. I have a win 7 sp 1 2.2 gig mech it's old but can play a highly modded Skyrim np. What I need is a dummies guide to the following 1 100% safe download site here looks ok. 2 where can I get the unity mod to download to my tablet virus check, transfer over, install, and test it. What mods are lower end graphics wise a good idea is low end Skyrim mid graphics Oblivion area. 3 fixes for quests this is my Crux to mod I can play fine w/o mods after that! 4 A basic guide to the game a Walk thru with tidbits of hints for side quests might be nice. 5. An item creator/magic item repair set up. I also want to keep the stat and merchant glitches intact! So to a boy who was on the ground floor of this WONDERFUL game. I'd love to help this forum to show Bethesda we can make this game better! I am all ideas sadly no coding.

Hi and welcome!

I will reply just a basics and Im sure others will add other info laters.

Here u download DFUnity - latest version is 0.7.32 http://www.dfworkshop.net/projects/dagg ... ve-builds/
Here u can download free Daggerfall with all patches etc https://wiwiki.wiwiland.net/index.php?t ... llSetup_EN

You install DFUnity and you can place Arena2 folder in there as well (not really needed as you can point the DFUnity to your Daggerfall instalation located anywhere)

Install DFUnity, run it, point it to your Arena2 folder and its done.

About mods and locations to download...
heres a list of released mods.
All links are clean, never had a problem. We are not here to share viruses...
https://forums.dfworkshop.net/viewforum.php?f=27

Some less HW demanding mods might be this:

Cleaned SoundClips https://forums.dfworkshop.net/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1692
Mountains and Hills https://forums.dfworkshop.net/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1008
Daggerfall Remastered Music Project (Released) https://forums.dfworkshop.net/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=921
Real Grass 2 (with some decent settigns) https://forums.dfworkshop.net/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=964
Vibrant Wind https://forums.dfworkshop.net/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=532
Postprocessing (again, decent settings) https://forums.dfworkshop.net/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=694
Enhanced Sky https://forums.dfworkshop.net/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1542
Handpainted model replacement project (Release v1.42b) (I recomend only the base package, not the buildings) https://forums.dfworkshop.net/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=583

Than there is a D.R.E.A.M. :)
But it needs a 8gb RAM and 4gb VRAM...
you can try it and see how your PC copes with it, or you can use only packages you can run

All DFMOD belong to the ".../streamingassets/mods" folder
Loosefiles from the sound mods belong to the ".../streamingassets/sound" folder

Also there are mods adding quests and events to the game, they have zero HW requirements IFAIK
Warm Ashes: Dangerous Dungeon Exteriors https://forums.dfworkshop.net/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1087
Daggerfall Unity Quest Pack #1 https://forums.dfworkshop.net/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=924
Archaeologists https://forums.dfworkshop.net/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=888

Pretty sure mountains and hills has not worked for the last couple of builds.. but I've never even downloaded so this is second hand info.

Note: Bethesda has released Daggerfall for free; you can download it from their website; so as far as I am aware, the DaggerfalSetup link is 100% legit.
Previous experience tells me it's very easy to misunderstand the tone, intent, or meaning of what I've posted. If you have questions, ask.

Nope, nope, don't do that. Slow down. Do this.

1. Go here: http://wiwiki.wiwiland.net/index.php?ti ... llSetup_EN and download DaggerfallSetup-2.14.1.exe (157 MB).

2. Install that exe file into some folder called Dagger or Daggerfall on your main drive.

3. Go here: http://www.dfworkshop.net/projects/dagg ... ve-builds/ and download the build for your operating system.

4. Unzip that into a different folder called Daggerfall Unity.

5. Run the Daggerfall Unity executable file.

6. Go through the setup steps inside Daggerfall Unity, starting with pointing the browser at your Daggerfall folder.

It'll lead you through the setup and then let you play.

No, Daggerfall Unity is free. I do not even accept donations.

What gave you the impression it might be a paid site?

That has nothing to do with us. It sounds like it might be a prompt from WinZIP or WinRAR or something. We don't want any money. :)

If you need a good free open source program that can handle .zip, .rar and most other archive formats, I really like 7-zip. For just basic .zip files, Windows has had this built in for ages.
