"Random Ruler" in news sounds fishy too. I had "Generic Knightly guild" popping up at times myself, hopefully there's some generic way to filter them out...

Also, most NPCs won't answer many questions. If I remember correctly usually just one, then they get fed up and stop answering; Unless they like you very much maybe.
That's what spymasters are about, but you need to reach assassin rank (rank 7) in the DB to have access to them...
