Helegad wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2020 3:55 am Anyway, I started receiving Cartographer's quests early in the game. One sent me to Scourg Barrow but the marker was not on my map. I had to look up the location and travel manually. Not a big deal, but that might really screw up first time players considering you can't search the entire map, only region by region.
1: Cartographers guild sends you on quite a few missions where you get instructions about where an unmapped place is. Like, for example, finding a witches coven. In that case you are given instruction of where to start and what direction to travel. Was this the case?

2: You are aware that when you are on the travel map and have selected a region, some of them have arrow buttons at the bottom to move the view if the region map is too big to display in a single window? I recently learned this myself :D
1. No, it wasn't like that. It was an explicit instruction to head to Scourg Barrow and then go to a town in a region across the bay. It didn't seem to take into consideration that I hadn't been to Scourg Barrow yet as part of the main story, and seemed to assume that I knew where it was, because it wasn't marked on the travel map.

2. Yep, another of DF's little annoyances in my opinion. But that wasn't the issue here.

Well, the directions should get you there:
Message: 1012
<ce> %pcf, it is good to see you. You'll find Scourg Barrow
<ce> in the Dragontail Mountains. It's a place legendary for
<ce> the tales people tell concerning its Necromancer inhabitants.

<ce> If you can't find it on your own, start at Maaghtam
<ce> Grange. Depart it exactly south-southeast and continue
<ce> on. That direction should send you straight to the Barrow.
<ce> Watch your surroundings. If you need further orientation, it's
<ce> directly to the south of Bleeding Soul of Arkay, though that's
<ce> much further to the north. Don't go any further south than
<ce> Makehda. The Barrow will look like a black cube covered by
<ce> a spire with a small tower on each corner. Once you've found it,
<ce> come back. =timer_ days, remember. I will wait for you here.
This is why the letter you got tells you to ask for directions:
Message: 1011
%pcf,

We occasionally require our Scouts to go to the utmost
reaches of Tamriel to fulfill our work. Today is one such
day. We need you to travel to Scourg Barrow and then
to ___place_. If you have need of directions, come see
me first. We have =timer_ days to do this.

These cartographers are exceptionally brave guys to go looking for necromancer's citadel :D You have to be, in Tamriel... I imagine they had to lose a few dozen people trying to mark the location of Ancient vampires' shelters and such on these damn maps.

Maybe split this thread out from the WA thread?

A mod will eventually see this and probably move all these posts over to the Quest Pack #1 thread, so might as well keep talking here for now.

Yes, that's the quest, and I've had it three times in a row now. I don't know why I can't progress.

So, what happens if you go see him for directions? Doesn't he give you directions?

On the third instance of getting that quest, which coincidentally happened pretty much right as I replied to you last, I went and got directions, then finished the quest. Now I'll see if it comes back.

Looks like I've moved on. So it looks like you have to see your contact for directions if you don't want that Scourg Barrow mission to loop.

Cartographer missions randomly raise your rank or assign you a mission of your same rank, based on RNG. It starts this quest silently when you complete an exploration:

Code: Select all

_S1_ task:
        when _timer_ and _Q1_
        start quest JHCG001
        end quest

_S2_ task:
        when _timer_ and _Q2_
        start quest JHCG002
        end quest

_S3_ task:
        when _timer_ and _Q3_
        start quest JHCG003
        end quest

_S4_ task:
        when _timer_ and _QZ_
        start quest JHCG010
        end quest
It picks one of the four variables Q1, Q2, Q3, and QZ, and if it's QZ it does the promotion mission CG010. A similar structure exists for each of the Cartographer ranks.

That doesn't really explain why I got JHCG011 three times in a row.
