Local copy of Mark Jones website (mjonesgraphics.com)

Post by MrFlibble »

The most recent website of Daggerfall's artist Mark Jones, which was located at www.mjonesgraphics.com, has been down since around 2018, having received a major update some years before that.

The site is more or less preserved via the Wayback Machine, but some parts are missing and some are not working as intended. Luckily, there are tree mirror sites: http://users.erols.com:80/mjonesgraphics/ and http://morrowind.telefragged.com:80/dragons_eyrie/ have been preserved by the Wayback Machine to some degree, and http://dragons_eyrie.tripod.com/ is still online, although infested with some pop-up banner ads.

I decided to pull these together into a single, more or less working offline copy of the site, which I have uploaded here. The Daggerfall and Battlespire pages are complete, and so are most of the gallery images, including the sketches, while many of the other pages as well are either complete or missing only a few pictures. If you have anything saved that is missing, please share! (I've not bothered with some of the newer games listed on the past projects page, so as not to make the archive too large; what's left of those pages is accessible via the Wayback Machine).

Incredible! I'm impressed with the time and patience required to collate all this back into a single package. I remember this site rather fondly, being a fan of Mark's work going all the way to the Amiga days before I even knew the name of the man behind these lovely graphics.

I'd be happy to create a live mirror of this on dfworkshop.net somewhere - I think it's unlikely to get me into any trouble with Mark or any IP owners of the listed games he worked on. It's only a screenshot gallery portfolio after all.

Oh, take a look at the mushrooms in the right-hand-side background, and the tree on the left.

And here they are again in Daggerfall's files.

Lovely! Thanks so much MrFibble, this is joyful to look through. :)

I think it would be wonderful if you did that!

UPD: Perhaps it is still possible to contact Mark via email or Facebook (?), so maybe it'd be a good idea to try. He could provide the missing pieces of the site as well, I suppose.

Good spot! I only noticed the obvious ones, like the mage from Darkmere:

Also this dragon animation frame here seems to be quite similar to the Dragonling:

(although I've just checked the actual Dragonling animations and there is only a very superficial similarity there)

Thanks again for your efforts on this MrFlibble. I've uploaded this site to http://slushpool.dfworkshop.net/mjonesgraphics/.

Please note I'm no longer paying for an SSL certificate for the slushpool.dfworkshop.net subdomain, so you will see an "insecure" warning visiting this site. This is an oldschool static web site only and does not store personal information.

Ooh, that looks great, thank you very much!!!

UPD: One thing I've noticed though, the menu buttons don't load the highlighted version when I hover the cursor above them:
