Updated the fix to version 1.1. Turns out that male Redguards have a slightly different position of underpants in childguard mode, so I had to account for that and edit all versions of trousers, wrap, robes and some coats. Elves' clothes were also updated accordingly.

Another small update; ironed out several minor issues with human/elf male & female clothes.

The fix has been updated to version 1.2. I've decided to separate the Childguard mode fixes into a subset of files that the user can install if they have Childguard mode on; Daggerfall Unity does not really need these fixes because it has its own way of handling non-nude character sprites without parts of the underwear showing through the clothes (as it happens in DOS Daggerfall in Childguard mode).

As a result, the main fix is now as close to the original Bethesda files (minus the errors) as possible.

The updated file is attached to the first post in this thread, or can be downloaded here: df-dos-paperdoll-fix-12.zip

I've been playing around with the idea to update all races' chain mail to the human version where the mail is solid like in Arena and not a mesh of metal-colour and transparent pixels. The thing is, that while human females have a full complement of updated chain mail armour pieces, Bethesda somehow overlooked the male characters' chain pauldrons, and none of the armour sets have the updated versions.

I have tried various ways to create them in a semi-automated way, but finally just filled the missing pixels using the female chain pauldrons as a reference of sorts:

I think it turned out pretty fine, but feel free to make any changes if you think these can be made better-looking.

I also updated all the other races to have the new chain mail on all armour pieces that use it (including all greaves that have a chain skirt and a belt):

Argonian and Khajiit females now also have updated chain mail armour too.

Update from 2024/07/09: The chain mail fix is now version 1.0. I've made a few tweaks to the female Argonian/Khajiit armour, and also tweaked the male characters' chain pauldrons a bit too.

The main fix has been updated to version 1.2a, available from the first post. This includes several minor tweaks to male Elf clothes and armour. I have figured out the correct shape of the Elf/Argonian/Khajiit chain mail cuirass without the transparent pixels -- the human male chain cuirass is extended horizontally by one pixel, as column of pixels around the middle part of the sprite is duplicated. All other races have a narrower chain cuirass without any duplicate pixels. My previous update of the male Elf chain cuirass did not account for this, so now it has the correct shape as intended by Bethesda. I also replaced very dark pixels on right plate and chain pauldrons, by using the Khajiit armour set as reference.

In the clothes, I corrected the right arm part of the Formal cloak for male Elves by copying it from the human male clothes set (since the shape of the right arm is identical between the two races):

Additionally, the Elf Khajiit suit now does not extend beyond the greaves' belt.

I have updated the chain mail fix, now it's a v1.0 release. I've tweaked the male characters' pauldrons a bit (and also made the updates to all types of right pauldron for male Elves, since these sprites included very dark, non remappable areas which very very visible on chain mail and also bright metal types for plate, such as Elven or Dwarven).

I also completely reworked the female Khajiit and Argonian armour sets, which I previously had copied from by Andyfall fix. In the process I spotted a few other minor issues, like the wrong hand shape for one of the cuirasses.

A very small, optional update for male humans and elves. This gives pants and breeches a uniform hand shape, tweaks the hand shape on Plain robes and Priest robes, and updates uniform hoods with better shading for human male characters:

Doesn't appear to fix the khajiit suit on a female khajiit, which still clips through her chin (at least on face 2). I think I saw older versions said it fixed it, but I didn't see it in the readme for the latest one.

I suppose there is also the possibility that I'm just not doing something right. I'm extracting the arena2 folder to the daggerfall (steam) directory arena2 and overwriting things... still clips through the chin.
