Verifying by means of NPCs?

Post by violetbeth »

Hi to all of you! I can't wait to interact with everyone and talk about my experiences on GoG with the Dark Folk Union (DFU). I've been having fun with the game and am currently trying to finish the major plot.

I looked ahead to make sure there would be no shocks and discovered that in order to get a letter from some NPCs, I have to establish a specific degree of reputation with them. Which ending I pick will ultimately depend on these letters. I can't wait to receive all of the NPCs' letters so I can decide what to do.

I've also observed that you can read the letters on the wiki, but I like to go through the pertinent passages in-game. I would like to know if it is possible to find out how I now stand with these NPCs. Are there any console commands, mods, or tools that I can use to accomplish this?

I would also like to know how regional reputation is established. I am aware that regional reputation erodes with time, and I know how to verify my legal reputation. But I just finished a run of quests for the Wayrest King, and I still have a good reputation with him. Has my standing in the community with him diminished as well, or has time merely had an impact?

Hi violetbeth,
I thought there was a console command to check the reputation with an npc, but it seems there's only one to modify your reputation with one (and the way it's done you get no info about your current rep).

The only solution I can suggest is opening the directory of the game save (can be done quickly by clicking on the save number in the top right corner of its thumbnail, in save or load game screens), and open the file FactionData.txt with a text editor (notepad or better).
Then look for the "faction" you're interested in, say look for "name": "King Eadwyre"
The reputation with be shown on the next line, under the "rep" key.

Since that file format is JSON, you can also use JSON tools, like jq, to extract information off this file.
Say, all the non-zero reputations by increasing reputation:

Code: Select all

.../SAVE46 ᐅ jq -r '[.factionDict[].Value|select(.rep != 0)]|sort_by(.rep)|.[]|"\(.name): \(.rep)"' FactionData.txt

One way to see an NPC's reputation with you is to enable the Quest Debugger and enter Info Mode with F3. Click on the NPC, and it'll say their name and reputation value. It won't help with NPCs who don't exist in the game world, though.

The Penwick Papers mod (my mod) has an Enhanced Info feature that gives you a rough idea of your standing with an NPC when you click on them.
