Happy birthday to this best project on the whole internet!
Very glad to see, how it not only lives on, but is gaining traction and momentum. Its a testament to the quality of remake and the quality of the underlying systems, world... 1996 was a good year.

I'm so grateful for the love this project has received.

Stepping away for a year and just letting it run with community help was the best decision ever. It let me clear my head and make space for new things in my life. I can finally appreciate it as a work of concerted community effort without it being a constant burden every day.

Happy birthday Daggerfall Unity, you mad thing!

Just wondering though, it's one year since the release of version 1.0, right? The project itself is much older, but I cannot even remember straight when exactly it started. I definitely did visit DaggerXL forums sometime in 2014-2016 (I guess) when I first learned about "Daggerfall Tools for Unity", which must have been the precursor to DFU. The Daggerfall Workshop site was already online, IIRC.

Personally, I'd probably count DFU's life since at least the first playable release that allowed to complete the main quest, or something of that kind.

Some parts of DFU go back to my first failed remake attempt in '05/'06. Some of the tool internals go back to '01. It probably doesn't have a birthday so much as it was slowly willed into existence like an eldritch being.

I'm honestly down with whatever birthday people want it to have, 1.0 milestone is as good as any. I'm just happy it exists and anyone is playing and enjoying it. It means all those years of my life at least brought a little happiness to someone.

Interkarma, you literally made at least a million ppl happy! For many years. And many more to come. This is the best "amateur" remake anyone has ever done. And its the Elder Scrolls, one of the most known series on this planet. I doubt anyone will ever top you, or come to similar level. When I say you have spent 2 decades on this, ppl think Im lunatic. But as u said here, its almost 24 years since 1st brick way laid down. I think the 1st birthday since v1.0 makes sense. Or we can celebrate quarter of a century next year
