Linux 116: Unable to hit rat when near enemy corpse [RESOLVED]

I usually hit a rat by the first or second strike, but in this case I can go well beyond 30 and nothing happens. I can pull the rat away to hit it, but being near an enemy corpse does not allow me to hit it. Killing this pack of rats took an extended period of time for this reason.
