The two items are stacked on top of eachother like this:


When trying to pick up the letter, it always grabs the valuables first, causing you to get "caught". The wiki page doesn't mention this issue, maybe it is a behavior specific to DFU?

I've personally also seen NPC quest targets also stack on top of each other's too, perhaps is part of the same issue?
The most recent instance I remember is while I was doing Protecting an Honored Mage for the Mage's guild... when the quest started the mage appeared in the same spot inside the mage's guild as the quest giver was in.
And I also I have a recollection of something like that happening in a quest target inside a dungeon, but it was a while ago and I don't remember the details at all.
