mikeprichard wrote: Sat May 16, 2020 4:30 pm There are quite a few mini-guides online about color blind-friendly palettes, but I think one good basic description - with a helpful "Accessible palettes" section at the bottom of the page - is at https://davidmathlogic.com/colorblind/# ... -%23004D40.
"It is a good practice to, where possible, avoid conveying information purely through color."
Well, that's exactly what that map does!
mikeprichard wrote: Sat May 16, 2020 4:30 pm Pango, I do also like your idea for stronger black outlines around the pixels, if that's feasible given how obviously tiny they are!
Well, I hope you're all aware of the right click to zoom 2x, right?

Ha, exactly - but the sample palettes at the bottom of that linked page give an idea of which specific colors are friendly to colorblind people of all types.

Wow, I wasn't, and that just blew my mind! I assume this is an addition in DFU that wasn't in classic? Very cool, though I don't think there are any hints that you can do this on the map.

Would you be willing to do something around this at some point? Would be a really nice quality-of-life feature, I think, even for non-colorblind people with the stronger pixel outlines.

Nah, it existed in classic too :)

Well, shows what I know! Very useful.

Errr the location dots are really a stretched texture with point filter, so one cannot be very subtle by modifying the texture :(
They're certainly ways around that, just not as simple as I hoped...

Believe it or not, I actually think that's a big improvement over classic (though of course pretty drastic). I appreciate your taking a look at this!

Is that sufficient, or do outlines need to be darker?

At that value I find it still pleasing, but I'm not sure it's contrasted enough.
Either way I guess it will have to be an option, or need some keyboard toggle...

Some variants for comparison; Previous examples were using 25% outlines darkening.
37.5%:

50%:

100% (aka plain black):

(By the way, any of those levels of outlines help me point at locations, so maybe it's not such a bad option to enable...)

Awesome, pango! I think the 50% version - or maybe even 60% - is a good compromise. By the way, did you already start adjusting the color palette for the marker pixels? I haven't played in a little while, but don't remember those paler blue (?) colors - they really stand out for me, which is nice. The outlines also help me distinguish colors a little better by reducing the blending with the main map green background. Very good stuff.

Nope, unchanged colors. Either that, or there's a bug somewhere ;)
