Re: Daggerfall Setup for Linux
I haven't been able to find the files that the OP was offering once upon a time. I don't need them, just curious to see the work. I'm considerably more interested in learning how to mod Daggerfall itself, using any available linux OS. I'm using ubuntu, & its fine for me, but I would try another OS if it'd help in getting under Daggerfall's engine. Thx

Welcome to the forums.
A good place to start with modding is TheLacus' excellent documentation below.

Some of the more experienced folks in the Modder Discussion forums always seem happy to help as well.

Re: Daggerfall Setup for Linux
The file hosting service I used was only temporary and there weren't many people that were interested so I didn't find a permanent home. It's really only a self-extracting shell script, so not useful for modding purposes. Interkarma's link would help than my script would.wiseoldchild wrote: ↑Fri Oct 12, 2018 9:55 pm I haven't been able to find the files that the OP was offering once upon a time. Hey Taemos, I've recently transitioned to linux for more than just work and I would love to carry some of these classics with me. Any chance you could get the link alive again or send it some other way? I'd appreciate it greatly!

Re: Daggerfall Setup for Linux
Hi fredmingarry. I've uploaded another temporary link. I've added a feature to prevent saved games from being deleted during the uninstall process if chosen, so the version number has changed to 0.52. This hasn't been built in months so it's possible a bug or two has crept in; post if you have any problems. Tested on Fedora but should work with Ubuntu flavors as well.

Re: Daggerfall Setup for Linux
Hey Taemos, thank you! I've used it on Ubuntu 16.04 and it installed almost perfectly. It threw an error at line 149 saying that access was denied, but this is after it patched and installed everything (I think). So it didn't manage to change the controls or to add a shortcut as far as I can tell. It did prepare the config file which I added to my .bashrc. Absolutely wonderful auto-installer though, I appreciate the time you put into it. I am certain that as the Linux Daggerfall gamer community grows this will be the go to installer, so if anyone asks me I'll direct them to you.
I also tried uninstalling and it indeed saved the save files. Upon reinstalling with option 3 it didn't throw any errors.

Hmm, I just tried it out on a fresh Ubuntu 16.04 VM and it completed without error (icon, etc.) ... Maybe something was changed on your particular install? Line 149 is this:
Either way, glad to hear you got it working!
Code: Select all
printf "dosbox -conf %s/.config/Daggerfall/dagger.conf" "${HOME}" > "${HOME}"/bin/Daggerfall;

Re: Daggerfall Setup for Linux
Didn't work for me, but I'm sure that just means I need to diagnose the ver. of Ubuntu I'm using. Chances are I've changed something recklessly that needs to be adjusted or repaired. Still, I appreciate the work you put in to make it easier to install for folks like us. I'm still learning a lot about all of these different layers of software, and its better when I have stuff like this to motivate me. Thank you.

Hi there. I wouldn't mind trying to help you but I'd need more detail. In what way does it not work?

Re: Daggerfall Setup for Linux
Greetings,
I'd be glad to try those Daggerfall and Arena setup scripts on Linux Mint 19 (based on Ubuntu 18.04). I understand that the links published in this thread so far have expired. Please, may we have new ones to the latest versions?
Best regards,
Franchiver
