Have any modders considered ripping the monster sprites from Arena and Battlespire and adding new monsters to DF?

That is an interesting idea. Battlespire was originally supposed to be an expansion for Daggerfall. Something like that could perhaps be possible. Don't know how hard though.

To the best of my knowledge Battlespire sprites have never been ripped, though I'd love to be proven wrong.

You are correct, the images you get are unusable sadly.

Before anyone asks: I don't have the images anymore. If you are brave enough to use Python, you can use the scripts in this repo: https://github.com/ariscop/battlespire-tools and you'll need the Battlespire files as well.

There is some very weird stuff going on with the palette of the images and I doubt they will ever be useful unless someone reverse engineers the algorithm that processes these.

FWIW the only game out there that I'm aware of with an art style that reasonably approximates Daggerfall's and has the necessary sprites available is Hexen. Any interest in bringing some of those sprites into the game or would it clash too much with DF?

Blood also has some sprites that would be suitable also. Minus the cultists.
