Could you post a screenshot by any chance? Because that's not supposed to happen!

Yep, if you're playing with vanilla or (to a much, much lesser extent) Vanilla Enhanced skies, you'll occasionally see seams.

What's in the works?

We're hard at work on the next big update of the mod over here at Vanilla Enhanced. There are three main areas where we'll be improving and expanding. I'll walk through them one-by-one.

Hammerfell: Land of the Redguards

Hammerfell: Land of the Redguards is the first of several content expansions for Vanilla Enhanced. It's always been a sticking point for many that the northern coast of Hammerfell, including Sentinel and the Dragontail Mountains, has been populated by Breton and Nord sprites with Redguard names. The next major update for vanilla enhanced will change these into new, lighter-skinned, more heavily-dressed Redguards:

On the right you'll notice new guards for Sentinel and the rest of Hammerfell, created by the incomparable Kamer (guards outside of Sentinel will have generic shields). Kab the Bird Ranger is coding the villager and guard variants.

Cubemapped Vanilla Enhanced Skies

Next up, I'm working on Vanilla Enhanced Skies 2.0, which are cubemapped to work with John Doom's Skydomer mod. Because they're cubemapped, the skies and terrains move together correctly, completely eliminating the infamous Daggerfall motion sickness. The sky textures are also much improved, with better de-dithering and more vibrant colors. To preserve image quality, I also took a much lighter touch with the compression, so get ready to clear 6 gb from your hard drives.

Aesthetic Approach

Vanilla Enhanced version 1.0 came in for some well-deserved criticism for oversmoothing -- well, let's be honest, smudging -- textures. Ninelan has joined the project as Artistic Director and is helping to correct these issues. She's introduced a new approach, focused on maintaining a near-vanilla color palette, reducing mixels, and preserving the sharp contrasts that made the original Daggerfall art so beautiful. Initial changes include doubling the resolution of ground textures and most terrain flats, and desmoothing NPC and monster sprites. These efforts will take a while, so please be patient.

VE does not support matching clothes with the portrait. What VE does is use the portrait's face on the sprites.
So a mismatch only applies to a face mismatch, not clothing.

This mod completely overhauls Daggerfall's visuals while maintaining its original pixel art charm. It also adds remastered vanilla skies and a huge variety of villagers and enemies.

Main Features:
  • All textures in the game have been remastered in 32-bit color.
  • It includes retouched versions of carademono's variety mods. There are around 1,000 villager varieties (instead of vanilla's 24), 720 human enemy varieties (instead of 15), and 10-15 varieties of orcs, centaurs, and vampires. Redguard enemies now appear in Hammerfell.
NPC flats have been remastered based on the best available vanilla source -- and all are now animated.
Important note: This mod includes and upgrades Animated People, Villager Variety, and Villain & Monster Variety. If you have those mods installed, you need to remove them for this mod to work correctly.

Vanilla Enhanced Contributors
carademono (sprites, textures, and daytime skies)
Hazelnut (villager variety coding)
Kab the Bird Ranger (animated NPCs and enemy variety coding)
Ninelan (nighttime skies)

All textures used in this mod are available in carademono's GitHub repositories. They may be freely used in other mods as long as Vanilla Enhanced is credited. New contributions and pull requests to Vanilla Enhanced welcome!

This mod looks amazing! Just one question, what are the system requirements for this mod? And, just to be sure, I can use it in Daggerfall Unity, right?

System requirements should be similar to that of vanilla DFU -- it's less resource intensive than DREAM, though you may experience some stuttering when entering cities. And yes, this is a Daggerfall Unity mod :)
