Heya, I used to play DF a ton as a kid. Im getting back into it and found the DFU community. Can anyone oblige my curiosity and tell me the benefits of using DFU over the Steam game? are the graphics or move controls better? Im dumb, feel free to answer me like you might do a boomer lol

Welcome to the forums venividi!

Well, I could simply quote Interkarma, but I'd say:
  • Tons of bugfixes. DFU doesn't fix all classic bugs, and adds some of its own, but globally it's way more stable than classic ever has been;
  • Quality of Life improvements, DFU remove many little classic annoyances here and there, I tries to stay true to the original though, so don't expect huge changes (brand new UI, stuff like that) in plain DFU;
  • Game rebuild with modern systems compatibility: native versions for Windows, Linux and OS X means full resolution display (classic is stuck with 320x200 256 colors resolution), at high frame rate with better lighting;
  • Mods support, here or on NexusMods you'll find 200+ mods to modify the game to your taste

Yes, you can import your saves ;) viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2360&p=27540#p27540

Your main quest progress won't be imported, but you can use the console to get yourself to a close point to where you were in the MQ; see the above post.

I don't know what tutorial you're following but the zip files are definitely on Github: https://github.com/Interkarma/daggerfall-unity/releases. Scroll down and look under Assets

Do we have a Git-download screenshot / mini-tutorial anywhere to quick-point users to? (and is it up-to-date?)

The Git web-interface can be a lil overwhelming for those not in the computer-domains, coming for the first time to DL binaries while surrounded by such a complex looking interface geared for code.

I know how easy it is for that which we are always around to become second nature, that it seems nearly impossible for someone else to not understand... as we do. A common human-frailty among smart people. Putting ourselves in the shoes of more "tech-noobs," which let's be honest, most gamers are: DFU succeeds as it is made as easy as possible for the average person to first get into (so they can get hooked! :lol: and then become self-advertising) ...but DFU fails as it is inaccessible in any way to the average person.

I think it prudent that we have something short -- but highly polished -- for this very purpose. TT

I don't think there is. I do get your point but all that would need to be done is point people here: https://github.com/Interkarma/daggerfall-unity/releases. That is where the links on the main website point too.

I think OP may have been following the modding tutorial to set up the Unity Editor with DFU's source.
