Daggerfall Workshop Forums

I was curious. Is north straight up on the map in DFU or does it follow the true north of the map? The Daggerfall map is rotated so that true North is at something between the 1 and 2 o'clock positions. If you head straight north do you move in that direction or do you move toward the top of the map?

That's a good question which never occurred to me, but I think the answer is the latter, even though indeed the map is rotated. At least in towns, the directions correspond to the map orientation, IIRC.

The game is consistent with its map of the Illiac Bay, oriented straight east-west: travels, path of the sun in the sky,...
And everything is inconsistent with its map of Tamriel, and the Illiac Bay oriented SW-NE.
