Musical instruments to match area.

I'm not a music guy, but how difficult would it be to alter the midi instrument wavetables on-the-fly so as to better meld the music with the current region/environment?

I'd enjoy having region-specific music. Making on-the-fly alterations would probably conflict with mods that replace them tho.
