Whole city inside a dungeon?

Post by Luzur »

So this wierd bug happened to me today, i was doing this quest to get rid of bats inside a palace in Kirkcart Wood for the knights of the dragon, and had to find a bat exterminator in the same town. Went around trying all taverns and talking to like every NPC i could find, no luck, no clues, no hints or anything, NPC's woudl talk about the guy but not show me to his house or anything, so after while i gave up and got this random quest from a bar patron to get gold from a dungeon, so i went there and dungeon delved for abit, when i suddenly hit this wierd and new "gate" inside a dungeon corridor, which turned out to be the roof of a house.

Inside a dungeon.

So i TLC'd and what i saw was the entire town of Kirkcart Wood suddenly being inside the dungeon, no wandering npc's or working doors but alot of standing npc's around, and one of them turned out to be the bat exterminator even.

so is this a rare bug or common one?

EDIT: dangit, posted in the wrong forum

Never seen that before. Could you post a list of the mods you're using? I suspect it's a mod issue.

I'll move to Help & Support. :)

Yeah, definitely caused by a mod (or combination of). Base game partitions objects into indoor/outdoor/dungeon scenes and never has more than one context enabled at a time. A mod list would help and narrow down the potential cause.

When mods combine to create their own new mod: Interior Exteriors

I think I've seen something like this happen when a mod's OnTransition event handling fails but I'm not 100% sure.

I'm also thinking about Avernite's recent finding that RaiseOnTransitionExteriorEvent being sent while scene is still loading asynchronously...
While it may not be the same event, that issue could be the result of some race condition because events are not sent at the optimal moment for mods

Avernite's conclusion is not quite correct here. The scene cache is saving/restoring only certain object state (e.g. loot containers, doors). In the majority of cases there's nothing actually happening, and when it is it's only happening to objects present after the scene has finished loading.

Avernite updated comments when they came to the realisation the SunlightManager is not active indoors and their issue was not related to that earlier assumption.

I haven't accepted that PR yet either. I'm grateful for the suggested solution, but might choose to solve a different way rather than merge as-is. It's a minor lighting problem that only happens some of the time. I feel there's a simpler solution to be found.

Well i'll update and mention that the town of Kirkcart wood is now permanently inside a dungeon, its usual spot inside the city walls is empty now LOL

Found another village inside Scourg Barrow, but this time its some unknown one since i only had Morgiah's letter quest on at the time. I was kinda worried that Wayrest had ended up inside Scourg Barrow, but luckily it was still on its usual spot.

here's my mod list, i also have alot of extra questmods installed. Any tips on making the list prettier is appriciated :)

That's a long list of mods. Your player.log file would probably go a long way to clarify what's going on: viewtopic.php?p=27552#p27552
